This is strange--Darnold has a lot of turnovers, and weve still won, partly because of his otherwise great play, getting plenty of passing yards and TDs, especially early in the season when teams were loading up the fronts. Not sure why that cannot be admitted. He's not perfect, but he's been good enough to overcome some of his own mistakes when we had almost no running game.

He burned teams early in the season, especially deep. Now they're trying to balance stacking the box vs. 2-high safeties and we're gashing them with the run when the box is lighter. And Sam is still throwing darts.

I've seen all I need to see to know he can do it. Will he in the next game or three? Will the rest of the team do their jobs as well? Will Kubiak and Durde have solid game plans? Will the entire team execute?

It's almost like some people here will blame any failure on Sam, and if we somehow drop out of the playoffs, it'll be his fault even if it isn't.

12 PAGES!?!?!

I love Sam! Sure, he's made mistakes, but nobody can make everyone feel bad about it better than us Seahawks fans. Every little mistake or error is blown out of proportion, and used to project a dismal future. But it's time to change all of that garbage. I'm going to do my best to be positive, and show undying support for Sam, at least until right before our 1st playoff game. I will defend Sam from the absolutely ridiculous though.

Yesterday I heard him compared to Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson. What utter BS! Those guys could never get to their 3rd and 4th read, or throw absolutely pinpoint passes with the perfect touch to their receivers with a fraction of an inch to spare on the sideline. Some of those catches by Kupp, JSN, and AJ Barner, were absolutely ridiculous! The accuracy of those passes was what we needed considering the coverage. Otherwise they never would have gotten completed. You can hear the amazement of the announcers too. Just absolutely elite passes, to elite receivers.

Despite all of my cryin,' complaining, and bellyaching, I'm riding with Sam, and wouldn't want anyone else...well except Drake Maye.

By the way, how does New England get so damn lucky? Poor Buffalo.

Hey, Justin Fields had a low turnover rate this year.

Q: Is anyone suggesting that's the metric to debate a QB's value?
The thing is, a QB WILL HAVE TO from time to time take some chances and as such will throw some picks and/or drop the ball. It's the nature of the game. Sam has shown that in most cases he can put a bad play behind him, whether it was strictly his fault or not, and play well enough to still guide the team to a win. He did that numerous times this year, which leads me to believe that he could do it again if necessary.

Saturday, the team was so dominant, especially on D, that there was no need to take many chances. That may be different in future playoff games as the competition gets better and better and the pressure gets higher and higher. Sure we "left points on the field." So what? We won the game. The maximum the 9ers could have scored was 10 points if that interception had not happened. We still would have won by at least one score. 🤷‍♂️

I think he has changed a lot of the narrative. Think of how divided the fanbase was in week 1 over geno after we lost to the 49ers and the raiders beat the Patriots. People were desperate to say 'ah see'. You don't see that any more and I'm not convinced geno beats the rams and 49ers without a melt down.

I think whoever came up with the concerned parent watching their kid play sport analogy with Sam is spot on. You know he has the talent, can overcome adversity but still have a few yikes you've got this buddy moments when he makes a throw.

Mahomes threw 14 picks in 2023. Josh Allen threw 18 picks in 2023. Stafford threw 17 picks in 2021. Joe Burrow threw 14 picks in 2021. Purdy threw 10 picks in 9 games this season, a higher INT rate than Sam.
Now tell us how many touchdowns they threw along with those interceptions on a per-game basis, and you might start seeing the outlines of why they were given a pass.

I don't think he is claiming that Darnold is Mahomes. Just that they aren't perfect either. Yes, Darnold needs to cut down on turnovers, but he isn't a scrub being carried by the rest of the team either.

Interesting point you raise. So basically, Sam needs to throw more touchdowns, and he too, will earn a pass? Is there a specific TD/INT ratio criterion that needs to be met? Was his 35 TD/12 INT ratio last season good enough to earn a pass? Because I don't think it was. No one really gave him a pass, except for our GM.

Is his 24 TD/14 INT this season not good enough to earn a pass? Or is it pending his TD/INT performance in these playoffs?

I'm not suggesting he is as good as these other "elite" QBs - just want to make sure he's graded on the same curve here.

Yes, not imploding upon first contact with the postseason is also going to be a valid part of the rubric for "no one caring" that you're turnover-prone.

Especially when your lone playoff appearance featured you fumbling and having it returned for a tuddy.

There sure is a lot of criticism and pessimism for a player who - despite his turnovers - has helped get us to 14 wins, a divisional championship and the #1 seed in the NFC.

Some people just refuse to be happy. These are the people who would win a million dollar lottery and complain it wasn't two million.
The hell with that! What does a million or two get you in this day snd age? I do not even think about playing while the pot is below 100M!!

I just watched that play in slow motion. I guess I don't understand what a QB is expected to do in that circumstance. He actually saw his read and was about to pull the trigger, and then a Rams DL immediately cut off that throwing lane. As he was pulling the ball back down, he got bear hugged by another Ram DL coming from his blind side.

The improvement I most hope to see next season is for the adoption of strategies and plays that spring our WRs and TEs much more open more often for easier catches so Sam isn't forced to try to thread missiles in obscenely tight windows so often. Envious of the handful of other offenses in the league who have this down to varying degrees in their system, at times making opposing defenses look completely lost.

That reminds me of the 2024 Jayden Daniels. So many of his completions involved rolling the pocket and just hitting wide open guys. There just wasn't a risk of turnovers on those plays.
