Habit. And the past requirement of having to pull his team in to a win.

Sam Darnold started 55 games early in his career, mostly for New York, with 17 coming in Carolina. I don't know how those games went, but i can guess.

I can see each one of those 55 games being a situation where Sam had to desperately try to be a Super Hero in order to get a win for his team. Something that rarely happened.
During that time Sam's team was 21 and 34, that's a lot of indoctrination in to playing the savior. With him actually succeeding sometimes.

So back to my thesis, I think Sam needs to break old habits, something that is very hard to when one is under pressure. That's why I think they need to have practices with Sam getting hit, and having a deep receiver, but his direction from his coaches is to take the short route, no matter what. He needs to build muscle memory of taking the short route.

And one more thing, Sam had to start his rookie year, he's never had the chance to learn like Russell did, run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, short passes with the occasional bomb. Again, let him unlearn those bad habits!!!

Analyst has key strategy suggestion for Seahawks in wake of Sam Darnold’s performance

"Sam Darnold wilted in the face of the Rams defense again, throwing four interceptions. For the day, Seattle lost the turnover battle four to one and scored just one touchdown on four red zone trips and still lost by only two points. This is still one of the best teams in the NFL. It just needs to keep the ball on the ground against Los Angeles the next time," The Athletic wrote.

The Seahawks were coming off their best rushing performance of the season in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals. The team ran for 198 yards on the ground and proved that they can win that matchup on a weekly basis.

The team took a different approach against the Rams, throwing the ball 44 times while only attempting 35 rushes. That resulted in four Darnold interceptions, but 135 rushing yards, proving that there was success on the ground.

Ghosts of seasons past? OK, I'll buy that.
I better fess up. I'll take the blame for this one. I was so satisfied with the woodcutting I got done Sunday morning I neglected to get the stalls cleaned in the barn. That evening I saw the turds in there and I knew immediately why we lost the game. I didn't do my part.

Yeah, I think Sam just tries to do a little too much sometimes and it gets him into trouble.

Hopefully he can relax and just play point guard out there. It’s okay to throw it away or eat it and take the sack sometimes.

Seems like he's just trying to do too much/trying too hard. He needs to slow down and take what he can get, Seattle doesn't need a Hero.

You rat bastard. I *KNEW* it was your fault all along! (I was wearing my previously-undefeated new Seahawks t-shirt, so I knew it wasn't me...)

Gotta love false narratives contrived from just glancing at stats on a surface level. They were 35 pass to 35 runs before the final drive

Par for the course for msn.

As someone who watched many Sam Darnold games (with my daughter the Jets fan), I can attest that early in his career, Sam had an appalling lack of judgment. He made terrible, inexplicable throws that he should not have made. He threw them early in games, in the middle of games and late in games.

I believe (although I could be wrong) that his first pass in his first game was a pick six. I also think that the Jets did go on to win that game. Despite his interceptions, my daughter believed that Sam would be the Jets' savior.

I hope that maturity plus the right coaching will help Sam get over this tendency.

I went to look at the play by play for that game and indeed it was a pick six for his first pass.

Upon further viewing of the play by play I noticed that Int was to Quandre Diggs, later a tackle was made by Jamal Adams, Golden Tate caught a TD from Matthew Stafford, Jason Myers made 2 FG's and six XP's.

Oh wow, I don't think those facts even registered to me at the time.

Btw, where has Sam's biggest supporter @glenwo2 gone? He seems to have deleted his username and disappeared.

They gotta stop giving away games to the Rams. While I have been pretty happy with Darnold, these turnovers are a real issue. Fingers crossed he cuts way back on them. Defense played their hearts out. Around 250 yards given up. Short fields after turnovers makes it really tough.

They’re coachable imo and seattle is the right place and has the right staff to coach him. I feel he early in his career like others have said he was thrusted and wasn’t ready, it’s then developed a habit, a habit in which imo is most certainly fixable if he willing to learn, which to me it seems he is. More so than the previous QB

Love this coaching staff and where this team is. They're a very strong 7-3 team. I definitely believe in Darnold. Not forcing passes is absolutely coachable. Plenty of time for him to fix this recent trend. And he definitely comes across as a very coachable player. We didn't see that enough from Geno or Russ, often.
