I Want Older Proven Veteran IOLman In Trade

I wanted this the last two off seasons to go with our younger OLmen, now with Zabel in the fold. I thought JS fell short on this. I'm a big trench guy. Protecting Darnold and running the ball is priority number one now. We need another bully to play guard, especially on 3rd and 4th and short. I'd be willing to put together a package of any of these assets for one...

I'm not looking long term here, just this season and perhaps next, as in win now. I'd take a Joel Bitonio now, or someone like that. Any other names that might be able to be pried away that would improve our OL this season?

Our guards are pretty big and stout, especially Bradford. I doubt any kind of upgrade is available. Line play can improve as they work together hopefully that happens over the year. Every team out there with few exceptions has O line issues.

Yes, we should rub a magical lamp and get three wishes of dominant O lineman granted pronto. Every team has the same need. You cant just snap your fingers and make it happen. There are no teams looking to offload there dominant O lineman.

By the way the bears went out and redid their entire line this offseason and it isn't any better than ours. In fact I'd say it is worse.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a 30-34 year old proven vet IOLman who's probably at the end, or near end of a contract playing on a losing team who would be an upgrade right now over what we currently have.

What you seem to be saying is don't try to make your team better if you're the GM.

Given the available cap the team has had all this preseason if there was a player that was worth the money that player wanted to be paid you'd expect the team would have picked up the player. not sure there was any deal worth making to provide that Older experienced and capable interior OLineman.

I'm rather sure lots of tires were kicked and still are being kicked.

That's a possibility near the trade deadline I suppose but most teams aren't looking to tear down their own team at the start of the season.

I'm still hanging onto the "it's still early in the season " reasoning . Some might call it an excuse but this is actually a young line in a new offense . I think they'll get better as time goes and yes , grab someone if they're available. But like Nate the great said , teams aren't usually cool with unloading their dominant OLine.

Post seems at odds with itself.

Pass blocking is a defensive retrograde activity. Trading space for time.

It is run blocking that goes on the attack. Bully Ball.

Besides most of us recognize the severe shortage of offensive linemen ..... an ongoing NFL problem yet to be solved.

Growing chemistry and communication is where growth will come from as the season unfolds.

I don’t. Because all that does is stunt the young guys whom we need to excel over the next few years. Personally, I think we have the horses, tho I’m not 100% sold on Bradford. But they HAVE to develop. We can win and develop them now, and not keep putting that off.

Not a fan of the idea. I'm for letting them grow and learn together over time.

They may be our "weak link" but they've carried us to a 3-1 record so far.

Okay. I guess people don't see this as a concern as we fight for a playoff spot and possibly the division title moving forward. But I reserve the right to say "I told you so" if someone goes down to injury, or if we don't get enough of the overall push and protection there when we face teams like the Bucs, Rams, Texans, Vikings, Falcons, all teams with good defenses. I'm not sold on either Bradford or Haynes. I'm fine with Cross and Zabel, tentatively hopeful about Lucas, and okay with Sundell. I'd personally just feel a lot better if we brought in a proven vet OLman who could anchor the interior of the OL. Then we'd also have a little more depth there.

I'm feeling good about us now. Good enough to want to shore this line up for a run. That's all.

Bradford did show up in much better condition this year. However, his feet are still heavier than his team mates. He was drafted for the Pete Carroll era and I suspect he is a better fit for a dedicated power scheme in contrast to a zone scheme. Tight splits and compressed formations help minimized his movement limitations. The team certainly has the coaching and player commitment for improved line play as the season unfolds.

Guard was just one of the interior OL positions we just happen to be in need of shoring up now. Just like when we needed a C and signed Robbie Tobeck in 2000 to form one of the greatest center/left combos in NFL history along with Hutch and Walter.
