Exactly. I mean, the dude clearly sucks, doesn't care about the o-line and should be firedWait. I thought Schneider didn't care about the offensive line? First he uses a first round pick and now this?!? I'm so confused.
I mean he's getting better and deserves a lot of credit for refocusing on the line. But 2-3 quality moves doesn't erase an entire decade of drafting and scouting misses and mistakes.Wait. You'd have to be to ok cutting those checks. heh. Go Cougs!Go Cougs.
If they're extending him, they're comfortable with his health, IMO.
I wonder if there was someone else involved during that time in the decision making who maybe isn't with the organization anymoreI mean he's getting better and deserves a lot of credit for refocusing on the line. Not sure where the confusion lies. He sucked at addressing o-line with a BOTTOM 25-32 ranked o-line for YEARS, and now he's getting better at it.
This seems unfair. As GM his responsibility is to acquire players that fit the profile(s) desired by his coaches. In the last 10 years we've had 5 different offensive coordinators.I mean he's getting better and deserves a lot of credit for refocusing on the line. Yeah, that probably covers the first season, with add on roster bonuses down stream. Throw in some incentives for playing time and etc and we're golden.I heard Brock Huard say the deal is "just shy of $20 million guaranteed." But he didn't give any details outside of that.
The risk is though that if he balls out this year in the new scheme then his price also goes up vs possibly getting him at a cheaper rate now.Based purely on his play thus far, I don't see Cross as a Top Tier tackle. Probably not even Top Ten, and certainly not Top Five. Considering what he would command on the open market, and the premium the position commands, I can see Schneider dealing Cross in a sign + trade deal, tagging him for a year, or just letting him walk. Unless he takes a large step forward this year, he isn't the caliber of player that Schneider typically rewards with a 2nd contract. He whiffs too much on speed rushers around the edge for what he is going to want to demand on his next contract.
Was going to respond this, but scrolled through to see if someone beat me to it.I wonder if there was someone else involved during that time in the decision making who maybe isn't with the organization anymore.
I felt the same (but was weighing if he was worth the spot he was drafted) and went to check his overall rankings, he's a top 10-15 tackle and has had some pretty $#!++y coaching schemes to deal with. I'd say he's better than what we've seen, and will only get better with a better staff AND players around him. Worth hanging onto.Based purely on his play thus far, I don't see Cross as a Top Tier tackle. Probably not even Top Ten, and certainly not Top Five. Not to mention, he was extended on his rookie contract and has another full season to prove he is worth top 5-10 money as a left tackle. Most teams would kill for a blind side tackle as good as Cross. We have high standards here, based on one of the best ever in Walter Jones. Cross doesn't have to be that good, but he could be close.I felt the same (but was weighing if he was worth the spot he was drafted) and went to check his overall rankings, he's a top 10-15 tackle and has some pretty $#!++y coaching schemes to deal with.
