Did KC give all their money to Mahomes...

Despite it being a record setting, mega deal, Mahomes took the most team friendly contract since QB salaries started rocketing, and he has remained one of the most underpaid players in the league.

He showed what a team can do when a QB considers his legacy over his total earnings.

10 years at 45 million APY was technically league leading, when signed, but the length of the contract allowed them to push the cap hit deep into future years, where it will never hit top ten.

Had he signed a more traditional 4-year contract, he likely would have earned upwards of 100 million more, over the 10-year years he plays under this one, IMHO.

The success the team has enjoyed has more than paid off for him, though. He will be able to pick up endorsements in perpetuity.

Let’s just say he signed a 4-year $45 mil instead of 10 years

2020 - 2024 $45 APY = $180

2024 - 2028 $60 APY = $240

2028 - 2030 $65 APY = $130

Total $550.

These are not unreasonable numbers for the best, active, QB in the game.

The Chiefs will make headlines again this year but it won’t be for winning a super bowl, it’ll be when Kelce knocks up Swift. Their depth and overall balance as a roster is ass

The question then, what changed in the off-season to make this superbowl finalist roster (yup, yet again), as you say, ass?

Nobody is happy losing a superbowl, but what Kansas City Chiefs have done recently is nothing short of remarkable....see thread on 'Dynasty..'

Hey they definitely deserve credit for a great run…I just don’t see it happening this year. All good things eventually come to an end. They’ll make the playoffs but not the SB (in my opinion, just an opinion lol)

The Chiefs relied on their defense a lot last season so I see that trend to continue. But for the Chiefs to make a deep playoff run they need their offense to rev up again.

JuJu is back and he will be a solid slot guy even late in his career and it seems he is fully healed. Worthy and Brown are the boundary WRs and they can run but I wouldn't consider either one dominant. Royals and Thorton are the backups and they too can run like the wind, but once again they are not really chain movers.

Kelce, Noah, and Wiley are the guys that really help them move the offense and overcome the cover 2 defenses that have slowed down KC the last few years.

The Chief's dynasty is over, overpaid, older and figured out.
The Eagle's showed all how to handle PM's and the concept of doing so
will be copied by every opponent, while other teams are not the Eagles,
they don't have to be to slow that offense down enough to win.

…and while we’re at it, I’ll just say I can’t stand Nick Wright from FX1. Such a KC ball washer…aren’t they supposed to be unbiased, so tired of him

On paper it may seem that Mahomes gets all the money, but in actuality they allocated significant resources to the following:

Clete Blakeman
Carl Cheffers
John Hussey
Shawn Hochuli
Bill Vinovich

As much as it was a team friendly deal, the piper had to be paid at some point.

Mahomes cap hit has never exceeded 20% of the total cap, but will hit 25% next year, and 22% the next, pending the inevitable restructure.

Chris Jones (after restructure) and Jawan Taylor are both north of $20.

They’ve done a good job of managing restructures to free cap space. I suspect there will come a year when they will need to eat up a lot of contract space to clean things up.

No. He's underpaid relative to the market; and quite underpaid relative to what he would command on the open market.

They do need to continue to hit on draft picks, probably at a better clip than they are, so that they can transition more entry-level contracts into key roles on their team. But even then, Humphrey, Trey Smith, Karlaftis, and McDuffie are all relatively recent draft picks who have earned substantial 2nd contracts. Josh Simmons was an absolute gift at the end of the 1st round that should allow them to have an inexpensive player at a key position, which will help.

How long was everyone writing off the Patriots? You heard it was over every year. Except it wasn't, until Brady left.

They won 15 games or something last year. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them back in the SB and winning it.

Unless they met up against the Seahawks - then they would collapse - dynasty over.
