I don't have a lot of sympathy for the owners, the majority of whom inherited the teams from their families. Yeah, many of the players make a nice cash load, some of them great stashes of intergenerational wealth. But owners are doing just fine, the values of their teams going up and up and up, on top of the profits they're making each year.. Each team currently earns over 400 million a year from media, sponsorship, licensing and merchandise deals which alone makes almost all teams profitable after expenses. It's hard to tell exactly what they make each season because they're private enterprises (except GB) and don't have to publicly disclose such information, but they're doing just fine, have more than enough money to lavishly spend and invest each year.
I'm not crying for the players either, but considering how short their careers are, that they don't get to choose where they work, that market forces don't determine the values of their initial contracts, and that they're beholden to these teams for some years, I'm still more on their side than the effing owners.
