The check out teller knew only as much as I did about shemar and he emphatically agreed their owner is a cheapskate as he's a bengals fan and said this is what their front office does so I actually feel shemar is in the right , without knowing any additional info of course but really sounds like they're being jerks and their owner does stuff like this on the regular so if we could snag another guy because another owner is being a jerk i'd gladly give him a 5th for the 1st he wasted cuz a kid stood up for himself , woof , he really made it sound like the ownership is holding the team back which makes me feel very happy we have the owners that we do so that's all folks

What happens if a player refuses to sign and sits out the whole year?

I will preface this by saying I have not looked it up and don’t have a reliable source. A friend of mine said he can refuse to sign and enter the draft next year. No validity to my knowledge of his statement but I doubt the nfl has a plan in place for this type of situation.

I agree though the Bengals in my eyes are in the wrong.

By sitting out the entire season the player would then be eligible to re-enter the draft the following year.
The main problem with the unsigned second round rooks this year appears to be a question regarding guarantees. Not sure the same applies to Stewart. AND I am for sure no expert on contractual details.

He should go back to college for another year and get NIL money. I think he has college eligibility left. Any rule that doesn't permit him to do so before signing an NFL contract should be challenged. Would such a rule make sense anymore in today's world of college and professional sports?

Yes, you're right. If Stewart sits out the whole season, he can re-enter the draft next year, and anyone except the Bengals can draft him.

But he won't do that because he loses a whole year of a first-round salary, and it will be hard to make that up.

I was wondering the same thing. Shoot, a lot of guys are going to make MORE in College than they will in the NFL. Strange times indeed.

Yup. It seems like every change in recent years has been to the benefit of the college football player in terms of financial opportunity and flexibility of movement between schools. I don't know what standing rule would prohibit a player from returning to college football after the draft and before they sign a professional contract if they have any year(s) of college eligibility left to them. The hiring of an agent? That seems pretty darn flimsy to me. What other rule could it be?

However, he would need to take legal action against the NCAA which does not permit players returning to NCAA play, once they have committed to be drafted. With only three accrued NCAA seasons, he would have good standing for this kind of anti-trust suit.

He is a star, but not one who is likely to make the kind of NIL money that would replace what he would lose in NFL guaranteed income.
