What happens if they don’t draft OL? At all or just with the first pick? If they don’t draft any at all, this message board will be more lit than a college campus on Friday night. The pitchforks and torches will be lining up.
If they don’t use the first pick on a guard or tackle or center I’ll be just fine about it. Yes, the biggest need area on the team is IOL, but if all the guys that might be available for the IOL at pick 18 are generally considered second day picks and beyond, why would you overdraft for a need when a few studs at other positions are staring you in the face?!
If the best possible player available at 18 is a guard or center, then yes please pick him. If one of those IOL players is 30-50 on most draft boards, and is available at 18, please for the love of all things Seahawks, pass and make a pick for a guy who tilts the field.
From what I have learned, this draft is deep on the meat and potatoes guys. Linemen are clearly meat and potatoes guys. Please don’t overdraft linemen like many teams overdraft QBs. Anthony Richardson, Malik Willis, Will Levis,…
Even with the perceived needs on the line, this team really is set up to draft best player available with their first pick. Drafting for need hurts your team overall and weakens your team if you don’t hit on the guy picked. The entire draft is just a big crap shoot. There have been busts at every draft slot. Overall number one pick? Lots of busts. Top 5? Plenty of busts. Aaron Curry anyone? Picked number 4. Labeled by most as can’t miss, surest pick in the draft. The Seahawks got rid of Julian Peterson who played the same position for Curry.
The draft is like Christmas. Plenty of shiny exciting things to open up and be happy about. In the end, sometimes the box the gift came in is better than the actual gift.
