Wow, a third. Not great compensation. Well Darnold isn't getting the offers he thought he might so maybe thats an option. I don't mind him on a modest contract.

An early 3rd for a 34 year old mid level QB and $31,500,000 in cap relief is tremendous compensation. The team should have $63.85 million in available cap going into FA, maybe they will be players.

It was as well unlikely that the team was going to be able to reach an acceptable contract with Geno, so any pick got for him and the cap relief is a bonus.

This is a good trade which signals a serious change of focus for the team.

I'd expect he team will draft at least one young QB this draft.

All of this. Not only did you get a high 3rd round pick, you clear a ton of cap space. They are finally doing a real rebuild, and have a bunch of money to do it with. Exciting times for anyone that actually wants a winning football team.
