If you go QB you better go high up in the draft.
Yep. Sadly, this draft isn't deep enough for a Bo Nix to be there at 12 again, where we might at least be able to make a non-prohibitive trade up.

Better mid-first than in the later rounds, but I don't want to draft a QB just to draft one either. Having the wrong QB is worse than not having one at all.

Allar announced that he's going back to Penn State. Probably doesn't speak well of his draft stock. I believe he was considered like a third rounder.

I don't think he looks particularly natural playing QB, but maybe another year in school will do him good.

Is he? Well I guess that gives him the chance to work on his game. Maybe another year in college will do him good.

IF “the QB doesn’t matter because the o-line stinks” then why are we wasting high money on a mid QB in a development window?

I really want to look ahead and get rid of Pete’s failed teams. Geno is a symbol of that. Any snaps he takes are a waste when they could be used on Howell/QBOTF

Legion is right, Geno is very mid. We can cut him at the end of the year and save 25 million, which we can use to rebuild this oline.
Absolutely correct . Gino will never excel in the red zone. Just can’t process the condensed field in the red zone . Schneider has painted himself in a corner. CutGino go after Darnold. BTW if we arn’t going to use DK let’s trade him. Gino is locking in on JSN too much.

Seattle already has a top 10, arguably top 5 QB. Just extend him. If the line stags this bad it won't matter who is behind center anyway
Geno Smith has the Mercedes S class syndrome. Most of my friends that own S class always has that it ain't a Bentley or Rolls when it comes to branding: and not a Ferrari something like it when it comes to image and in the chicks department.

Although S class is very good, arguably better than those more exotic brands, but it just hard to love.

Circling back to Geno, at his age, Hawks can't sell "HOPE" to the fan base like they could sell a rookie QB. In short, Geno could not put butts in stadium on game days.

Even with the Number one pick drafting a QB to start straight off is a risk, assessing QBs is an inexact science and a 2025 start can slip though to the top picks and even lower (e.g. RW3), but the odds of getting someone better than Howell in 2025 is not great getting someone on a par with Geno is very slim.

I have no idea what Geno would demand for an extention and he is getting older so could be below starter level by 2026. I would like to see us draft a QB not in the first round but in the hope they will develop into our QB for 2026, if he does a Russ and outperforms Geno in preseason then great but in all probability Geno is our QB for 2025 and if the backup is showing starting quality then we don't extend Geno.

Seattle is in a very rough position as far as QB goes. We won't have the draft capital to move up and draft anyone worth while, nor is this a good QB class. We essentially only have one out to replace Geno and it will cost us dearly. That out? A Sam Darnold sort of figure. Those are essentially our options at QB, Geno Smith, or the pending free agent Sam Darnold, if he even makes it that far.

If we're lucky maybe we can trade for JJ McCarthy if the Vikes decide to go Darnold, but either way that'll cost an arm and a leg -- not sure the Vikes would be willing to part with their rookie either.

Either way, I think we need to think about a contingency plan for Geno.

It’s so early in the process that it’s hard to say who’s good and who isn’t at QB. If JS thinks he has a superstar like he did with Russ then I’ll be pumped he got his guy and trust it works out

Gallingly emotional motivations are not what I want this team's front office to be indulging in.

QBOTF, perhaps. But anyone still holding out hope for Howell doesn't know rookie mistakes from Geno making do with what he can. Howell was just throwing stick into basic Cover 2 last night. I watched him in Washington, he was no better. Turnover machine.

Yep, Howell is not an answer, nor should he be starting over Geno. People talk about Geno's pocket presence being bad, while hyping Howell. I kind of had to laugh at that, because Howell's internal clock is laughably and he has zero pocket presence

Rob Staton's been talking up Allar of late, so it's no surprise his name came up here. Sanders might be the only true first round talent, though I'm no draft expert. It's the kind of year where you take a flyer on one in the 3rd or 4th round on some guy with some great physical gifts, but hasn't shined with them yet. Long way to go, though.

Fix the OLine and shore up the defensive front.
