Let's talk about the game Geno played in the desert of Arizona, about his stats, about how he managed the game.

I think Geno benefited from a balanced offense, heck, our OL benefitted from an balanced offense, and Charb was brilliant.

This pissed people off in the game day forum but I’ll say it here. I would much rather have check down Geno who is smart with the football over the turnover every week Geno. He played smart today against a good defense and with a good running game it works. I do think he’s a little off mentally though? He seems a little gun shy and my guess is the high turnover number has messed with his head a little bit.

So again this Geno is better than what we’ve been getting but I think the best Geno is one who does what he did today but is slightly more decisive with the down field stuff. Not much but just slightly. Maybe he’s trending that way and can build off of today?

Everyone played pretty good. Not sure what happened on that first cards td, but we ran all over, geno was very efficient, jsn is a star, AJ barner trucked that guy, Geno had a couple misses and that one to pharaoh brown in the end zone had me miffed for a second but our defense punched Kyler in the face and Geno made em pay. I love when we score on the first play after a pic. I think this was Geno’s best game, I also like that he didn’t have to throw 10,000 times, it helps him. He limited the errors and played smart. Great game. Now comes the gravy. When we beat Green Bay and Minnesota I’m gonna be stoked. The rams might be our toughest game left

He was fine. Left points on the board in the red zone AGAIN on that first drive, and got bailed out by the defense, but immediately made the Cards pay, and there's not much to say after that. Was protected very well, running game was fantastic... didn't really force anything. He had a few incompletions that I thought were despite really nice throws.

I'm curious if he ever even thinks to run when he's not basically forced into it, or if this is what he's coached to do. There are some very good teams coming up and then very possibly at least one playoff game; would be nice to keep the defenses honest.

I’m glad he didn’t turn the ball over but he just seemed a little off and not confident at times? He played fine for sure.

He may have missed a TD on the first drive but that fade route to Lockett was a dime and a play we've seen Tyler make over the years so he deserved a TD there. I loved seeing the check downs to the RB and TE. There were times in recent games where he was reminding me of "let him cook" Russ, just holding the ball when the protection was there and getting himself in trouble.
Loved him taking what was there today when the deep throw wasn't.

There was another third down where the Cardinal. defender got his hand in the way for a breakup where imo of DK comes back to the ball that's a completion

And what's with the refs giving Geno no slack on intentional grounding?? I've seen that play a lot with no call. Same as last year when they called him on a clear miscommunication in the "I'm taking to America" play.

I'm usually pretty rough on Geno but he seemed a lot more in control of himself this game.
Great throw to JSN for the TD. He overthrew Fant a little and missed Pharoah for a TD but overall not a bad game. His throw to Tyler was damn near incredible and one Tyler usually comes down with, can't blame Geno for that one.
I wasn't yelling WTF GENO, like most other games this year anyway.

Yeah for sure, with this defense if you have zero turnovers you're probably in the game so I understand the approach for sure. Hopefully this is an offensive game they can stack and build on moving forward.

When he missed Fant for the TD, yes, I was in that what you are doing Geno mode. But after that, he was fine.

Geno idolized Brett Favre and is himself a gunslinger. He has falked about having a Favre mentality in that hebalways geels like he can make the play. And Like him or not, he can make every throw you can draw up.

Problem is, he know it.

And until a few weeks ago, if he wasnt throwing his arm off and driving us down the field or bringing us back from a deficit again and again, we didn't have an alternative to help us win. The D sucked, the running game(for all its talent) was one of the worst ranked in the league.

So Geno became accustomed to doing too much. Honestly i think he also became a little overconfident and careless at times after seeing the success he had over the last 2 years (and lack therof prior) and relishing the role of being THE guy who was relied upon to make everything go.

I dont think what we saw yesterday was at all shaky confidence. I think it was more him pocketing his confidence and just playing the strategic game. COULD he have made more throws? Yeah. Likely. But i think he also knows now that he doesnt HAVE to and if he is smart, he sees that he has more to gain by being the QB of a balanced contender than he does a team relying on him too much to win. The spotlight moght be a little wider in the former, but the reward is obvious.

To be fair, Fant stumbles a little on that catch attempt and a TD wasn't 100% guaranteed anyway. I did notice he had JSN wide open underneath though on that play.
I was a little more pissed that he missed Pharoah for the TD though, that one should have been there.

Guys, guys, guys...when the D sets you up for two easy TDs you don't have to take chances. When you have that big of a lead in the first quarter (or so) you revert to game manager mode. Not Geno's personal preference, maybe, but you can win a lot of games that way. :)

hahahahaha

Well, you could also hit guys who are open for TD's? It's a crazy enough idea to just work.

/sarcasm

All kidding aside, that's the thing that has always been my issue with Geno. Missing easy stuff, then later making some incredible throw. I just don't automatically excuse a guy when he misses opportunities. On the other hand, if he comes back and makes up for it, coo :)
