We are three years into the post-Wilson rebuild. With the addition of four first-rounders and a genius-level head coach, we are supposed to be a team ready to compete this year, NOW, because we won't have cap space or draft picks for the next off-season.
A few things went wrong:
- We signed George Fant in case Lucas needs more time. Yes, Lucas does need more time, but Fant kept injuring himself, too. Keep in mind that Fant did not have an injury history.
- Anthony Bradford was drafted as a project, 2 seasons later, he remains a project. His replacement whom we invested high draft capital on, can't unseat Bradford. Ready-to-go center Olu, couldn't make it onto the field, not under Waldon, nor Macdonald. We end up spending cap space for Connor.
- Grubb, I'm not sure whose idea it was to hire a college OC, but it sure hasn't worked well so far, has it? And yes, the Fant situation didn't help.
- Murphy the rookie first-rounder has been OK to good, but not the dominating force, right?
- It has taken more time for our players to learn the Macdonald system, so far, they played like a post-2020 Carroll defense, not a Macdonald defense.
We don't have trade capital, nor an abundance of cap space. We need to make whatever we have work, if whatever we have, after 3 rebuilding years, isn't good enough. We need a new GM, which is very risky move as Schneider may not be the championship builder, but he is above average.
