I'm not in love with this, but I'll reserve judgment about Barrett. Jackson is underrated. And plays with exactly the sort of physicality that some other players have lacked. But as Jville noted, the remaining guys probably are more naturally suited to man coverage.

It feels a bit desperate, and Patty O' seems like a longer and more explosive version of a similar player. I know Barrett is one of Jay Harbaugh's guys (and was with Mcdodald for a year).

I suspect they think he's an instant special teams badass. And the new kickoff thing is going to cause some aches and pains this year.

John Schneider did right by Michael Jackson Jr.

Schneider effectively found Jackson a starting job with the Carolina Panthers. A Class Act.

Players and agents pay attention to such details.

Why does everyone think Michael Barrett is too small? He's 5'11" and 237 pounds. Bobby Wagner is 6' and 240 pounds. The Chiefs have a guy named Nick Bolton who happens to be 5'11" and 237 pounds. He's not Jamal Adams' size (210 pounds).

He doesn't have the ideal length, but the main knock on him is that he doesn't have the top-end athleticism or explosiveness and doesn't have experience with covering tight ends or receivers coming out of the backfield.

But good enough for depth and possible special teams work.

Ya, he did. I think Jackson makes the Jags better. And makes him more likely to land a solid extension.

Great post, J.

Hawkblogger seems to think Darryl Taylor will be traded next to the Panthers or Titans.

I wonder if Coby Bryant also will be moved on.
Dear lort…please be true.

A LB that was also a return man?

Oh yah…this cat looks like a baller.
