Whenever there were mistakes on the practice field under Pete, the coaches would wait until after practice to study the film and try to correct after the fact.

In a complete dichotomy in coaching approach, when a player or players get something wrong during a play…

Mike stops practice and teaches the players why that was wrong and the solution to fix it.

Holy mother of love I cannot begin to tell you how much that thrills me to no end.

Strap in kids. This is going to be the beginning of a hell of a new era.

Im still baffled by the lack of accountability and discipline in the second half of Pete's coaching career. We could have won so many more games if we didnt have so many dumb game losing errors. Talent and positivity can only get you so far in a ultra competitive sport. You need to be able to bring the hammer down when needed. Im glad that's being addressed as well.

I don't mind it.

Huh, accountability - nice - I agree with the other poster's comment about the last 1/2 of the PC era.

Something's going on - haven't watched too much Utube on it, but when I hear 'chippy practice' and 'helmets coming off' - *something* is up/different.

Let's hope it carries into the season.

Here and there
I can't say for sure, but I got the impression towards the end (last several seasons) that Carrol always wanted be the good guy, always liked and by doing so; accountability of both players and coaches seemed to go out the window. Of course, this is all speculation and my opinion, but those thoughts always crossed my mind. Especially with the coaches and lack of adjustments when making plays. It always seemed like you knew what was coming before a ball was snapped, rinse repeat. If we as players could see it, just imagine what opposing coaches were relishing when they knew what to expect Seattle do on an upcoming play. Even when all else failed and games were lost, Carroll and his upbeat "we got to do better and we will" mantra was at the point of no longer believable. So Mike's holding players accountable is certainly a breathe of fresh air this team was longing for and translates to great days ahead again for both the team and it's fans....can't wait!

Which I hope leads to in game and halftime adjustments when we are are playing rather then play it out, look at film, then try to see if we can fix it before the next game.

Something I think all of us were pulling our hair out about from the beginning of the Pete era.

Couldnt agree more.

i loved Pete, but his steadfast commitment to teaching through others manifested in an unproductive tendency to avoid direct critcism - if it was negative. If you have the folks around you who are hard nosed discpline focused types, it can work, as it did in the first 4 years Pete was here. But if you run your message through your coordinators and those coordinators dont have the experience, dont demand accountability, and dont garner respect, you can lose your way quickly.

Indeed, I went from "blow dry and style" to "Just shave it!"

I was and am a big Pete fan, but sadly agreed it was time for him to go, and now MikeMac is showing us so many of the ways that Pete failed to keep up with the game. MM and JS seem to be doing very well as a team. We shall see!

P.S. In many ways it's remarkable Pete won as much as he did, a credit to his strengths. They say it's overuse of our strengths that causes us the biggest problems in life. Pete's loyalty to underperforming coordinators was one example. Another example is "impose our will" vs. "exploit opponent weaknesses and favorable matchups".

The only thing that really bothered me about Pete was that, since man first discovered laundry could be made red, nobody has been more clueless in its presence. Seemed like he was good for at least one dumbass challenge per game.
