New players, new system, new Coach, new mentality, aggressive and hitting.

NFL Officials want you to earn your stripes so to speak, young and new they don't know well, young and rookie players that as far as they are concerned need to learn their place and not upstage them. Learn what they will allow and call and when, how to talk to them off camera like during commercial breaks etc.

Don't be surprised if we lead the league in aggressive penalties this year, that's fine, it's the stupid ones and lapses in judgement penalties that bug me.

We need to establish a personality and play style, that is going to have to be paid for, unfortunately to give us room to play we will need to absorb these for a while.

I get it, but I really don’t see the refs thinking about who the head coach is on whether or not they’re going to throw a flag. If this were the NBA there is a lot more focus on as fouls are usually called on a player that has or is close to the ball and all eyes on them. In the NFL with 22 players on the field, Flags are thrown more often than not for things away from where the ball is.

Gotta set the tone, eating a few penalties is a necessary evil.

Knowing when to walk away has been a problem. New regime, a lot of new faces, can't wait to see it play out.

The 2023 Ravens weren't a heavily penalised team. Their offense was generally penalised a little more than average and the defense less than average. I'd say they were disciplined. It's a positive sign, but until the 2024 Seahawks team takes the field it's just anecdotal evidence.

I certainly expect the Seahawks to be more legally aggressive in 2024 and I expect the tackling to be night and day better.

They had Harbaugh as coach and a team of Vets and selected additions, different animal, just remember when Pete assembled the LOB, took two seasons or more for the Officials to give them room to play, Sherm and Kam took a lot of penalties, Browner was the most physical but I rarely remember him getting as many as the other two initially. Pete was lobbying them continually and trying to educate them on what we did.

If more penalties means the team sets the tone of dominant physicality like the early days of the LOB then I'm good with seeing more flags if the penalties are not dumb penalties.

I want opponent to get back to home knowing they just faced a tough physical opponent who is prepared to knock every opponent on it's rear. Slobber knocking and preparation for it happening to you needs to return to any assessment of the Hawks D.

Better still I want to see the D tackling better than has been the case for last few seasons.

OTOH, Mac's defense with all of its disguising and moving around is gonna require discipline. Maybe that will bleed over into how they play.

MM strikes me as a very detail oriented and disciplined in his approach to coaching. I think he will know what the officials are looking for and communicate that to his players. I don’t expect the calls to be as debilitating to this team as it was to some of Pete’s teams.
Pete often said he would accept the penalties as long as the team was playing aggressively and with speed.
