He's one streaky kicker that's for sure. A couple years back he was pretty abysmal but they brought him back and he was like one of the better kickers if I recall. Dude is too streaky for my taste, and he sure loves to hug the uprights. Rarely is he a "down the middle" kicker.

Yeah, even with his makes, you're kinda holding your breath watching the trajectory. Myers is a guy where you look at his stats and think "that's pretty good", but if he's lining up for a critical 40-yard attempt, I'm shaking like I'm on an adderall binge. I'm jealous of these teams that have these stud kickers like Tucker, Butker, McPherson, Elliot, Boswell, Aubrey, etc. where you have no doubt that ball is going through the uprights when the game is on the line.

Exactly my criticism. Dude just runs hot and cold. When on, he's great. But you never know when he's about to shut off.

IIRC, they had Brandon Aubrey for awhile and decided to go with Myers instead. Aubrey signs with the Dallas Cowboys and hits 36 of 38 FGs (94.7%).
I can't find anything online about him being with us. I hope he wasn't because Aubrey looked incredible, and I'd hate to have missed out on that.

Ironically, the one year Myers actually had some competition was when we first signed him and he lost the job in camp/preseason to 40-year-old Janikowski. He then went on to have a Pro Bowl season with the Jets. I'm wondering if when he came back to Seattle the following year, he was like "OK, I'll sign, but this is MY job, alright?". Seems weird we've never even as much brought in a cheap UDFA kicker to push him, as many great ones as there have been in recent years.

I hate to be THAT guy, because this team would go 0-17 every season if they always listened to me, but I was calling for them to sign Cameron Dicker going into the 2022 season, and he has been just phenomenal for the Chargers.

I think we should be all over Will Reichard in this upcoming draft, even if it takes like a fifth rounder or something to make it happen. I'm not sure there has ever been a kicker prospect with more big-game experience than what Reichard had over five seasons at Alabama. He was absolute nails.

Missouri's Harrison Mevis is another one I think will have a great NFL future. That 61-yarder he nailed as time expired to knock off Kansas State last year was the stuff of legends:

Look how much that cleared by. Are you kidding me?

Maybe he didn't. I can't seem to find anything either but he was solid for the Birmingham USFL team too. I think that is where I got confused as that was the same team Bo Scarborough was on. The Seahawks should have brought him in. Way better kicker than Myers.

Not having a Tee can really screw up kickers that were good looking in college.

I remember when Pete cut him in favor of Janikowski, thinking it was so "Pete" to take the seemingly sure but always unimaginative option. Since then, Pete insisted on unimaginatively overpaying Myers. Always clinging to what he thinks he has.

I was so done with Pete by the time he was fired. So much so, I might have taken the year off if he was still around. i came to see the man as arrogant, stubborn and selfish -- all wrapped up in this charismatic, energetic package. Most head coaches are really bright. Pete, in my view, is not. It's probably not fair to call him stupid but, among head coaches, among whom the better ones are real bright men with keen, analytical minds and strategic vision, Pete was completely outclassed. He made the same predictable choices over and over and over again. He would try to stretch here and there but it was not remotely close to adequate. Look at how Macdonald's defense took our offense apart.

Pete could hang with the other mediocre coaches but his record against the smart guys was horrid.

His contract is a bit prohibitive, but I'd want them to bring in a UDFA and give the kid every opportunity to supplant Myers. Do that every year until he's gone.

That's just nuts, man. Carroll is the only coach to reach the pinnacle at both the college and the pro level. He came into the pros, cycled through a few schemes until settling on the vision, and made it the defensive meta in the NFL for YEARS.

These are not things that are done by individuals who are not bright.

Meyers is kind of every other year so I voted no. He should be gold next season.

When he had the LOB, and Lynch and a young Russell Wilson, he was great. And he built that team. But he didn't keep up with the times. The game changed and he didn't.

Even with all that talent, he was never a good on-field coach. He was a good culture creator. But strategic decisions were never his forte.

I can agree with some of that especially near the end, but the LOB was far from luck. It's not like he was born on third. He turned a bunch of misfits (besides Earl Thomas) into the most formidable defense the league had seen since 2000 and arguably has not seen since.

I just think to imply he wasn't bright is more than a bit overly harsh. He did absolutely get outschemed a lot in his later tenure, however.

What’s worse, letting Aubrey go or Travis Kelsey? Sheesh 🙄

Pretty nasty dead cap if you move on. Unless you’re a real contender, ride it out and hope for a rebound year.

Yay, yet another overpaid player! Myers is #4 highest paid K in the league, yet ranked #24 by PFF:

This is the type of stuff that makes me wonder if PC had more control than JS is letting on. Way too many bad contracts that make it appear they were just trying to hold things together for one more year. Either that or JS is really bad at negotiating contracts which I doubt. I suspect PC was too involved which shows why gregarious coaches shouldn't be making these choices, they're just too emotionally connected to the players.
