So one wonders what is going to happen with him, he is stirring the pot and wants Guaranteed money, where Watson set a precedent and Wilson followed up on it I think the owners want to stop this trend before it spools out of control and every player wants one. Is he going to be made an example of?

You have a point there, the owners are probably ganging up.

The funny thing is that Jackson simply can't read the situation. Almost all of the high dollar guaranteed money QBs in 2022 had their team struggle. Mahomes was the only one that won a playoff game. Most of them didn't even make the playoffs. Owners are seeing that these high dollar QB's are not leaving enough money to build a Super Bowl caliber team. Why would anyone want to pay top dollar to a QB when it is obvious that it doesn't benefit them. The Purdy situation also plays against him. If a very good team could still steam roll themselves to a Championship game with a seventh round rookie contract, why would they take the chance of handicapping their team?

Then factor in the sitting out of the playoff game when by most accounts he should have been able to play. If that is the case, you don't have a team player, you have a me first player. Why would anyone saddle their franchise with a me first player by paying him the contract that he wants.

Bummer for him. He didn’t finish the last two seasons, do you blame the Ravens for being cautious?

If by Kaepernicked you mean play himself out of contention for a top contract, hold out for a top contract, then blame something other than his own behavior for not getting that top contract (It's a conspiracy man!), then yes, he is getting Kaepernicked.

I don't think there is collusion. All the owners were probably individually pissed at Haslam for the Watson deal, and individually decided not to ever do deals like that.

If I'm the Ravens though I still think I would appease Jackson. Either: Jackson gets seriously hurt and you're screwed and you suck for a few years dealing with the contract; you trade Jackson and suck for a few years anyway dealing with the severe drop off in talent at QB; 26 Year old Lamar Jackson gives you a few more MVP calibre season and you compete for the AFC/Super Bowl. I think I would play that lotto ticket.

On a more macro level, it is dumb that for as much money as the NFL makes that Lamar Jackson can't get the same deal as Bradley Beal (or any other random athlete), and I think that even if you spend a day on an NFL practice squad your income for the year should be guaranteed, and if you play a snap in the NFL you should have health insurance for life. But that is all a much larger issue.

I don't see collusion. I think they see the danger in those types of contracts, he has missed 11 games the past two seasons and QB's who rely on their legs have a shorter career lifespan. Cam fell off late but he was a better passer and was able to play at a high level because of it. I'm not sure Lamar has that skillset. He isn't being reasonable.

if he wants something close to fully-guaranteed at ~45m, it's probably gonna have to be a short term deal, like 2-3 years.

There are two major red flags with Lamar when he's healthy. A) He's only had one season with an above-average red zone offense. B) By almost every metric, he's one of the worst QBs in the league when playing from behind.

On paper, he provides roughly the same offensive output as Jared Goff while having a skill set that relies much more on running the ball and doesn't age particularly well. So despite what the media is saying, it's not shocking that the Ravens don't want to give him a five-year, fully guaranteed deal. And it's even less surprising that teams are not lining up to trade for him.

His value is somewhere slightly north of the Daniel Jones contract.

The ravens tagged him, if he wants he can sign the tag and show teams that he can be healthy and play 17 games. Kapernick never got an extension or interest from other teams. And also no teams is willing to give up 2–1st round picks

Kaepernick had an extension with the digits. He lost that contract because he cancelled it himself.

But your point about Jackson proving himself by playing on the tag is a solid one.

I’ve said it before, I really wish Kaep would have stayed around. His skills would have washed him out of the nfl within 2 years. If he was good, he would have still been in the nfl, regardless of his political views. Lots of players with different views who never got washed out of the nfl, who were actually pro bowl players. Kaep was a backup quality qb at best.

I don't think Jackson sucks, so, he will likely avoid getting Kaeperpicked.
Kaepernick was intentional self sabotage. He had two opportunities to start post 9ers (Denver & Baltimore) and at least one to be a back up (Seattle). He either rejected or blew up the offer in favor of lucrative martyrdom.

Jackson could turn in to unintentional sabotage if he holds out, gets injured on the tag, etc. Baltimore reportedly gave him a pretty good offer already.

Not ganging up there was 1 owner who was desperate for a QB and made a poor decision the rest of the owners won’t make the same mistake. Haslam has been ostracized since he signed Watson. The NFLPA is aiming for fully guaranteed contracts like the NBA and MLB the NFL could not survive with fully guaranteed contracts with current contract lengths and values players careers are too short due to the violent nature of the game. If fully guaranteed contracts became a thing than you would see much shorter contracts with much lower values it’s possible but I doubt it

Jackson probably is an interesting situation where on one hand it seems Baltimore organization rubbed him the wrong way in the 2021 season and then negotiations went south in the 2022 off season. That probably explains why Jackson chose to sit out a playoff game as he probably checked out way before the 2022 season and wanted out.

But on the other hand he could have increased his value by playing in the playoff game and winning.
