It's almost as though people were not around for the Terreal Bierria season. Easily the worst Seahawk.

As far as the signing, I hope he finds better success in a better fit for him defense. The truth is that Clint Hurtt will make people look worse than they are.

Rick Mirer is the clear winner. Maybe Aaron Curry very close. Both were high draft picks that never came close to over hyped expectations. Saviors in the making they were. At least Barton wasn’t a 1st rounder who set us back years. Throw the Boz in the list as well.

Good.

I've never seen a linebacker volunteer to get blocked more than that guy, Embarrassing.

I remember the days when Stan Gelbaugh, Gale Gilbert, Sean Salisbury, Christine Michael, Etric Pruitt, Tedric Thompson, Delano Hill, and Tharold Simon were Seahawks. Easily some of the worst to don a Seahawk uniform.

Smart signing by Washington.

Cody is a big plus for their special teams and an ascending linebacker joining a typically good Jack Del Rio defense.

I thought Cody's growth was stunted considerably while backing up the Great Bobby Wagner. But, he never publicly complained. Only 26, it's good to see him get that change of scenery and make an early commitment to a good defensive scheme and philosophy. There was no way he was going to choose to continue his career in Seattle.

We'll see how Cody fits into Jack Del Rio's defense. I have no doubt that Cody will be welcomed by Special Teams Coach Nate Kaczor.

Tedric Thompson, now there's a name I completely forgot about, I remember having high hopes for him when they drafted him, sucks he flamed out.

Barton can carry a seam. He covers a lot of ground. I can't get anywhere close to saying he's the worst we've ever had lol.

Also kinda telling that he immediately got signed somewhere else, by a team with a defensive coach. A linebacker coach, in fact.
Nailed it.

He was not without positive contributions in his time with the Hawks. He was in on at least 50% of ST tackles for stretches of games, for example.

He was far from faultless this year, but honestly he only looked about as confused and out of position as the rest of the lbs, and that can't be all on him. He still managed a few impact plays.

I wish him well.

Barton had his moments. Would make a great backup. Or spot starter. I do think he will get better each year. His issues are with positioning during blocks. He gets taken out to easily. If he can learn to shed blocks better he wouldn’t be to bad.

Brian Russel anyone? (was that his name?...safety?)
I appreciate the effort Barton seemed to put into his game. For me it just wasn't enough.

You obviously no nothing about the Boz.

He was not a 1st round pick. He was a lottery supplemental draft that the Hawks won.

The Boz played some serviceable years and did some good LB play. I can show you many more big hits he put on people over the dishonest media hype over one run where he was at a bad angle.

The media, who hated him used that to create a narrative.

But injuries etc limited his career, he was far from a bust other than in the weak minds of people who didnt watch every game in those years and only parrot the media talking points.

Did he match the hype? NO, but that did not make him a bust any more than others that have had short careers.

Technically you might be right that he wasn’t a 1st rounder but that’s what he cost. The Seahawks gave up their 1st round pick to choose him in the supplemental draft. And yes, he did suck. If not living up to the hype is the criteria we are using to evaluate former players, then yes absolutely he was a bust.
Not to derail the Cody Barton live fest but Barton had a more successful Seahawks career than Boz.

Yeah, he looked good and in position the majority of the time when he was spelling Bobby the previous season. His problems were brought on by the new defensive scheme in which--lets face it--nobody in our front 7 looked 'good'.

Barton's biggest issue was when we were on the two-gap tech and reading off the what the DL in front of him was doing. He could be slow in making that decision and sometimes ended up just making no decision which is almost worse (he'd end up face up with a defender and would just be out of the play). But our DL was also slow in making their decisions that he was supposed to be keying off of, so this still isn't even all on him.

It wasn't like Barton was somehow alone in this issue on this squad. We have highlights (lowlights?) from all across the front 7 and even the safeties just not getting into the position they are supposed to be on these read-and-reacts.

Way too many heart-wrenching first down runs were ripped off by opposing RBs because this guy or that didn't get to their gap fast enough or at all. He just happened to be in a spot on the field where his issues were spotlighted and magnified.
