I thought there was a decent chance we were going to make a small reach for Trevor Penning. I wonder where he was on the list. He checked all of Pete's boxes.

Currently, Lucas, is the best offensive lineman on the team.

Cross, is showing he is learning the nuances of the NFL and like Seattle Person said, he needs to work on his conditioning.

Cross, is going one on one with some very good defensive ends and pass rushing linebackers and hasn’t yet matured his skill set as well as Lucas has thus far.

Lucas is a rising star and Cross will take some time to refine and better condition his body, strength and endurance. I imagine in a year or two, Cross, will be be a Pro Bowler and Lucas may see All-Pro sooner than later.

These two young bookend Tackles show a lot of promise for the future!

I thought Abe Lucas was a first round talent. I still don't know how he slipped all the way to the 3rd round.

Cross is really good but two big time warts are showing right now:

1) His play strength is not holding up against the bull rush. He needs to get stronger and bigger. In time, I think he will.
2) He needs to be in better condition. He's gassed by the 4th quarter and he's giving up sacks during the most important parts of the game. In turn, it is leading to sloppy footwork. You can see it with the sack he gave up to Chubb in the first game, he was leaking by the 4th during the 49ers game. He also gave up a sack late during the Falcons as well.
Not all of those sacks were on him. PC has already said Geno needed to step up into the pocket against Denver. those 2 sacks were more on him than on Cross. He's given up I think 3 maybe 4 sacks in 3 games. He's held up well aside from those. The most devastating sack was given up by our Center on 3rd and 9.

I think we may want to look at Lucas at LT and Cross at RT.
I'm not so sure that's a good idea. Remember how good Damien Lewis looked at RG (his natural position through college) before he got moved to LG and looked a lot worse?

True but a quick look may not hurt.

I was never a fan of let’s shuffle offensive lineman around just cause we can.

How about you play the players you drafted at their respective positions they have played in college, and possibly since high school?

Developing their skills at one spot for years and years and years, and then just swapping them because there are “holes” at another spot, more times than not, does not work for both sides.

Never understood that a player that has shown success at a certain spot, would be better at another spot? That seems like backwards thinking.

Let’s keep Cross at LT and Lucas at RT.

I guarantee you, that’s the position they feel most comfortable playing and will have the most success at.

Eh, not so sure I agree with you. Pocic says hi also...The team really should stop messing with things when they work, they have a nasty habit of doing that and then throwing away the baby with the bathwater when it doesn't work out.

And when we draft our QB next season and he is left handed we will have shot ourselves in the foot.

I think a very big reason they wanted to get both tackles this season is there is no way to know which QB we end up with next draft.

Lucas is amazing. I think he’s going to be as good as Cross. You can find starter-quality linemen in the draft if you have a good college scouting system. And, if you don’t (think Raiders) you waste picks in the draft.

Moving or demoting Cross could destroy Cross's confidence, and he hasn't earned the demotion, although one could argue that Lucas earned an promotion. May be someone could provide some analytic on the DEs both faced in the past 6 games? I bet Cross faced tougher opponents than Lewis as most teams put their best DE to face LT.

Seems to me that over the last 5-6 years or so, we've been doing too much shuffling O-linemen around and bringing in new ones and never really putting a solid line together. Right now, I want to see this group work together for a few games and learn to play together. For me, continuity is the most important thing after talent. The O-line needs that more than any other unit on the field IMO.

Lucas looks incredible for being a rook. He looks really good even compared to a vet. However, I think Cross’ ceiling is higher. When he’s not tired and his footwork doesn’t get sloppy he’s incredibly light on his feet. It reminds of me of the great WJ. Obviously big Walt also had incredible power among other things. But just looking at the footwork that’s what it reminds me of.

They got their bookend Tackles for the next decade.......in the SAME DRAFT. Nicely done front office, nicely done.
Well, I sure hope so. I like both Cross and Lucas and they both are showing a lot of potential. But the odds are that one of them isn't going to make it. I'll be happy if just one of them blossoms into a solid starter.

3 games in, he was the steal of the draft...you can't beat perfection.

Cross is going against the top DE that the opposing team could afford...you have to let a little slide considering he is a rookie.
It's a misnomer that the Best DE stays to one side always.

I think the weakness in our O Line is on the interior. I would start by bolstering the center position instead of buying the "best deal" available on FA market. But guards are where you get the running game going strong. Right now that just is not happening. Our RBs are taking the heat, but they aren't the ones who create holes to exploit. Walker made a nice run last week, but ran 67 yards to gain 21.

I heard Pocic is playing well in Cleveland. Maybe they should have resigned him instead of Blythe?

I think Blythe is a Waldron guy. He was with the Lambs when Waldron was a coach.
