I'm not sure what were supposed to be angry about....

How dare the coaches have a walk through?
Malcom Smith for not being more careful?

Is this just a veiled excuse to take shots at a coaching staff?

Help me out here

Also not sure Sherman is the guy to take info from as the gospel truth....

Fade, I think you have yourself a stalker.
It happens, I'm not sweating it…

Just a vid that came across my youtube feed. Figured Seahawks fans may want to have a look at it.

Sherman has just added another one to the list of inexcusable errors Pete and his staff have made over the years… You get a mulligan sure, mistakes happen, Pete needs about a dozen, at least.

Pete is largely responsible for the greatest concentration of acquired talent in a 3 year period in modern NFL history (2010-2012). That was his greatness. Not his head coaching. He didn't do it alone he had Scot & John, but Pete had to sign off on the acquisitions or they didn't go through. And Pete knew the players so well as he had been in college the last 10 years. He is still an excellent DB coach, also.

However, Sherman in the video proves once again, as I've been arguing over the years. That the players had to overcome the opponent, and their own coaching staff. But they were that talented they could do it, until they couldn't. And that's when it fell apart.

When Pete chooses to screw it up, he takes it to epic proportions. He no longer has the talent to cover up all of the mistakes he's constantly making. The slide continues, they will be worse this year than they've ever been under Pete, in this continued Pete Carroll era.

I've been trying to figure out where the leveling off point is? Every year they have seemingly gotten worse since 2013. There was a little bump in 2019 over 2018, very minimal bump. Outside of that every year the team has gotten worse overall. Can't blame the QB anymore, he's no longer there. Who was ironically doing the opposite, masking how rapid the decline was. Propping things up. Until he got sick of it himself and tapped out.

2010<2011<2012<2013>2014>2015>2016>2017>2018<2019>2020>2021>2022.

This Sherman vid puts a lot into perspective, why so many of those great players left the team on a sour note. Why Kam held out. I'd feel the same way in their shoes.

You normally do a walkthrough in sandals, chilled. They decided to go full speed. The players said "No, that is stupid." They went and did it anyway, and got Kam's Knee busted. The players wanted to fight the coaches.

It is another long line of bad decisions our coaching staff made that lost us the SB.

Again, Carroll winning that game would have offended the football gods.

There is no way Carroll is near the coach that Bill is and was. Carroll never was Bill's equal. Carroll winning that would make it look like he was.

The greatness of the Patriots and its definition as a legacy team was cemented when Carroll made the worst decision in SB history. Decisions like Burley, this, and probably a host of other choices that have never come to light were probably for the best. I just feel bad for the players. Guys like Kam and Lynch would have had HOF chances if they had been key cogs in 2 SB wins.

But Carroll going down as one of the great coaches like Bill would have offended anyone that dug deeper. Carroll was a great program builder, maybe one of the best of all time. But he was often a nightmare in his gameday decisions.

(I feel bad for Kam though. At least we gave him that 2nd contract because we screwed him so hard.)

There's just seemingly zero consistency here.

Again, for all of the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching about lazy gameplanning - it seems weird that you'd also be angry about the opposite. Sure, it ended badly in a VERY low-probability outcome, but is that not what you wanted proof of?

The only consistency is that the same people who are detractors find a way to melodramatically twist every single thing into some unforgivable error, and then ignore the rest of the context. Sherm and the players wanted to fight the coaches, yet they all come back and stay involved with the organization. The whole "sour grapes" point is absolutely demolished when simply taking a look around at the current point in time.

If you want to talk about real sour grapes, then let's bring up Bill Belichick and how he's viewed by former players. I cannot even IMAGINE the level of seething I'd see on this board if a former player copped to deliberately crashing his car to avoid Carroll's wrath.

It's just such a big reach.

Ok but this seems like 20/20 hindsight

Had they gone through it sandals, "chilled" and didnt make any adjustments to what the Pats were doing, then the players want to fight the coaches for being too laid back and not being meticulous and full speed like Belichick

And considering what we now know about Sherman, some former LOB/def players, the weird co-dependency they have developed regarding relationships with Pete and the Org, lets take this all with a bit of a grain of salt

You are correct Maelstrom.

Bill tosses players aside. He chews them up and then spits them out.
And you are correct that if that is the price of winning, maybe it isn't worth it.
If we did Lynch dirty and Kam dirty worse than we did, I would probably not be that much of a fan.

But it was a lost opportunity and it made no sense. Kind of the year when we beat the 49ers, got key people injured doing it, and never should have been trying to win that game in the 1st place - because losing to them would have meant we didn't face the Rams. And even with an injured QB (or no QB) the Rams embarrassed us. Sometimes Carroll cannot help himself, and that is a shame.

In a weird way, Carroll and Wilson likely had/have the same problem. They are both so far up their own *sses they refuse to fix the obvious and steadfastly cling to what worked before even if it stopped working some time ago. They are so full of themselves they refuse to see anything else. And it holds them back.

I dont understand how this is getting blown up into evidence that our coaching staff is a liability.

I mean, it's like the posts somewhere on the forum about how the coaches are responsible for the fact that Penny's constantly injured, insinuating he's not being worked properly in practice and then popping things in the game.

Sometimes you get hurt when you push hard in preparation. Sometimes you get hurt when you don't push hard enough in preparation.

If they hadn't run the walk through the way they did and taken it easy, they'd get flack for not being prepared. I mean, they already get flack for essentially not being prepared and giving up a double digit lead - forget about the injuries....

Pete does some dumb stuff sometimes, but that wasn't one of them. Bill's players hated him I'm sure for demanding hard work when they felt they had it down.

Dick Vermiel's players revolted because they were worked too hard by him, (and before their Superbowl). . Dick's players adore him now. And he's in the Hall of Fame. When interviewed for a piece on Vermiel, they said the same kind of thing... that they wanted to walk out on him because they thought he was nutts.. hated it and resented him for it.

Agree 100% on Burley though. My only solace there is that he never did squat after he left here and I hope his being inactive had something to do with him tweaking something in the lead up to the big game. I still think that had he been in there, Edelman doesn't burn us the way he did...

I can agree on that front. It'll be amazing viewing when it comes out. Lots of nuance and emotion baked into that era of Seahawks football. The highest highs and the lowest low of 49.

The real story here is that Malcolm Smith screwed up and injured the tone setter going into our Super Bowl. One player screws up and the whole coaching staff is to blame. You people are unbelievable.
In a world where hindsight taints the evaluation of decision-making, the only possible way to come out ahead is to be eternally clairvoyant. Pete shoulda seen it coming!

It does explain to me the fall out from some of the players not getting over the play call on the interception. Looks like some frustration was already building and all of it combined sent it over the top
I still remember being shocked on game day that suddenly Kam playing was in doubt.

Most of us can agree it was a dumb play call. But yet again, they should also be angry about blowing a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter.
"they were playing injured" excuses in 3....2....1.......
