REPORT: Baker Deal Nearly Done

Our savior is nearly here. A trade for Baker Mayfield is close to being finalized. He's coming to Seattle. Book it. It looks like that Browns troll who came in here saying Baker was already a Seahawk really did know something we didn't. Multiple reports say the deal is nearly done.

this guy is widely discredited from saints fans as knowing nothing. this is smoke at best
Yeah but an anonymous poster Browns source came in here and said Baker is coming here. That's definite proof.

This guy is full of gits and shiggles. But I do appreciate the tone of the OP.

If the price is low its a good idea. He is better than what we currently have for sure.

I've promised myself (and my wife) that I plan to spend a minimum of energy ragging on Pete this year. But this does sound like a Pete Carrol Move. For a guy with his resume, he sure gets caught up in the whole "we're just one piece away" thing. We saw that with his near-criminal trade for Adams and then again with the ridiculous contract he and JS signed Adams to. I think many of us were excited to have a talent like Adams, but not excited about what we gave up for him, nor the amount we gave caving into him. It wouldn't surprise me if Pete, the smartest guy in the room, feels he can reshape Mayfield and win a SB with him.

I know I said I'm not going to rag on Pete, but he's made clear to me with recent moves that he doesn't much give a rat's ass about the future of the Seattle Seahawks. He's not getting any younger and (IMO) it's all about now, it's all about Pete. Baker, I think, will give his best. He's been made a fool by everyone from teammates to the media. I doubt he'll be getting many endorsement deals at this point and that should serve him well. So let's say he shows increased maturity and refocuses on football. Will he win us a SB? No, hell no. But he'll probably assist us in winning just enough games to see next year's bevy of QBs off the board by the time our first pick comes around. Of course we'll have the ability to trade up...but will we? Or will Pete be so impressed with Baker's 8 win season that he'll feel we need more receivers and not our future QB?

WT actual F? They just reaped a boatload of draft capital for a 3rd rounder. If anything, they are built for the future not now. I mean yeah with Mayfield I don't see us skipping a beat. We will make the playoffs with Baker at quarterback. He gets the ball out quick, knows how to slide, can throw on the run. Our receivers might go off now over the middle more now with a decent quarterback running a McVay offense with nasty weapons.

So why is this not posted anywhere in football sites other than this guys tweet???
Because it’s likely BS.

Who is the source this mediot is accessing?

If it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck——.

I don't care what anyone says...I would love Mayfield to come here IF the price is right. I love his moxy, bravado, and you can sure as hell believe he has a giant chip on his shoulder to prove the doubters wrong. And you know how our culture loves to cultivate players with chips on their shoulder. Bring him in and watch him win the job between him, Geno and Lock.

I don't really see a downside here unless we pay too much for him. Otherwise, I dig the deal. Get it done.

I completely agree with this. If they make a trade for him and they don’t give up anything close to what they got for Russ then I’m in.

Browns have no leverage. I'd be shocked if it required more than a late-round pick and a minority of his salary. It'd up the competition for sure.

I agree with Aros, but the price for him is everything. If the Brown are prepared to eat most of this years's salary and they don't want anything more than a day 3 pick then for sure the team should move on this.

The reality that Cleveland is prepared to eat half of this season's salary for him to be gone is interesting but the management of the Browns is seriously flawed with some some of the decisions that have made recently. The Browns have three choices, keep Mayfield and eat his salary of the year and face continuing and loud distraction all season, possibly getting a comp pick in '24 for him, or release him and still eating his $18.585 guaranteed salary for the year or trade him to a team that is willing to give them something back for him. With the last option any team trading for him has the reality that Mayfield is a FA next year so you aren't getting much for very long if you trade an early pick and that reality increases the need for Cleveland to make a trade worthwhile financially. Here they have little leverage as Nanomoz has observed. He'll get traded to end the distraction.

I think Mayfield could be significantly better than Smith or Lock and will bring a PO'd focus to playing well this season as he will be playing to find another starting gig elsewhere.

Still think that Tweet indicating the Hawks are close to finalizing a deal for Mayfield is BS .
