One of his scouting reports:

PROS

  • Uncoachable off-platform arm talent. Doesn't need his feet set to deliver strikes.
  • Pinpoint to every level of the field. Ranked in the top five in off-target rate this season.
  • Flick release. No wasted movement or windup to get the ball out quickly.
  • Houdini in the pocket. Can get himself out of tight quarters under pressure.

CONS

  • Had all day behind one of the best O-lines in the country. Some games were glorified 7-on-7.
  • Trusts arm almost too much at times and won't set feet on throws.
  • Injuries limited him to one year of high-level production against a Group of 5-only schedule.

Tells me bang per buck and coachability headaches were not worth it with Russell.

Zach could be salvaged or at least improved to garner a trade worth more than they paid for him.

He is only 24. And the arm talent is undeniable.

$39M got the Broncos none of Russell Wilson's next 2 seasons. Another $37M would have gotten them all of Russell Wilson's next 2 seasons. The Broncos preferred to keep the $37M to spend in other ways. The Broncos were willing to keep him for 2 seasons on undisclosed lesser terms but a compromise agreement couldn't be reached.

Zach Wilson has 1 year left on his rookie deal. The 5th year option is out of the question so he's a 1-year rental. His improving in 2024 to a level where a franchise tag could be considered seems wildly unlikely. Zach Wilson will become a FA after 2024, and not having his 5th year option picked up for 2025 will disqualify him from the Jets 2026 compensatory pick consideration.

Well this kid has all the physical gifts to succeed, if Payton can turn the light on upstairs he may be able to be something more then a failed statistic for the Jets. He was in a horrible situation as a young QB despite having a decent line, terrible team and coaching can do that as well. Jets have a long history of breaking young QB's.

This move “helps” them in the draft to get a qb. Teams might not believe they have to leap Denver now.
