4 years, 140 million??????????????????????????????????????????

God, he had better start farting Superbowl rings...

Only way we're going get one with that salary cap hit.

He's got almost the exact same cap hit % he had on his last contract. When he signed his last one, i believe (dont remember exactly) the cap was at 126m. This year, its at 188m (and going to keep rising every year). So really, you shouldn't be stressing this cap hit. Its pretty fair for a top 5 QB (and hell, if you look at others on the previous APY hit, its a bargain):

Not sure how you can be anything other than happy about this.

- got our franchise QB for another 5 years
- Russell's just entering his prime
- This deal actually saves us another 7M off the cap for 2019
- Nothing was tied to the salary cap or fully guaranteed

Win, win, win and win. Good job Pete and John, and Russell.

Great points right there. Not only was it a pretty team friendly deal, they will have $ to spend this year.

This might be the part that is most exciting for me. Getting this deal done now gives them time to work on other extension deals with this money. Cap was starting to get pretty tight, but now they have a little breathing room to work with.

What is the source for saving $7M against this year's cap?... any idea?

For all the haters who think he shouldn't have been paid or that constantly berate him as 'not worth it', do you guys even watch football besides the Seahawks?

I do. And I see guys like Brady and Rogers have bad halves, bad games, even stretches of bad games. Brady threw for 260 yards and an INT in the last superbowl. These are just dudes throwing a ball, and statistically speaking Russell's been one of the best ever to do it even if we lament the fact that we don't have a team designed around him throwing the ball.

The Seahawks D was as bad as we've seen it since Richard Sherman began starting games and we still made the playoffs - that's what a franchise QB gets you, and this was the going rate to be lucky enough to actually have one of those.

Complain about the cap all you want, it will keep going up, and QBs with less resume than Russ are gonna get paid.

Now it's up to Pete and John to evaluate talent and put an affordable good team around him. That's what *they* get paid good money to do.

Because we just committed franchise suicide, jumping off the cliff with the rest of the lemmings?

His cap hit went way up this year, where they usually go down, because we shifted all his previous salary to bonus.

This is incorrect.

Clayton just said that his cap number is only going up 1 mil this season. I trust his word a lot more than a guy fighting as hard he can against a great deal for the Hawks. All due to his hate for Russ. But whatever, he's here for 5 more years. Sorry, you'll have to get used to it :irishdrinkers:

Russell's cap hit would have been 32M this year if no new deal. The new deal has his 2019 total salary with base and bonus at 25M.

If I'm wrong, blame Jake Heaps, that's what he said this morning on KIRO with Salk.

Because every possible rookie/young QB is Wilson or Mahomes

60 QB's drafted in the last 5 seasons.
15 of those are current/possible starters
at least 9 of those 15 are either too young (darnold, rosen, etc) or too inconsistent (Carr, Mariotta) to be considered guys who can carry a franchise yet.
The only ones who've shown they are even in the same league as Russ are maybe Mahomes, Prescott, Watson, Goff, and Wentz. . . . Mayfeild looks like he can play but who knows, RG3 looked great as a rookie also. All guys who will likely raise the bar when it's their time to get paid.

If you have a proven QB you keep them.

Good for him!

I only hope that they now give him more control of the offense and he starts changing the calls on the field more often so we aren't as predictable to opposing defenses. You don't pay a QB $35M a year to just hand off only on first and second downs all the time. He needs to keep them guessing and on their heels. Hopefully PC gets this as well.

It would be interesting to look a list of all the QB's certain teams have went thru, and still don't have their guy.
Teams like Miami, Buffalo etc. Shoot, look how many Cleveland went thru until they finally hit on one.
