Missed xtra points happen. Specially on a crap surface.
The only thing I'll say on the kick off return is he should never be in a position to have to give a poor effort on a return. I don't even think most coaches want the kicker potentially hurting themselves in that situation. He's not great, but he's serviceable and if he gets hurt and we're forced to sign some guy off the street, who knows what happens the rest of the year. The kick off team takes 100% of the heat on that play. I also think that was the biggest play of the game. Giving a team in their position something to feel good about early in the game is one of the few ways to lose that game. If we cover the kick like normal and give ourselves a chance to go up 9-13 to nothing, I think that game is over. It still would've required a solid effort on D, but they would have likely folded if we keep them scoreless through the first quarter.
