Stickum was commonly used in different levels of football in the past to obviously help get the glove to better stick to things or vice versa. There's no implication it is stickum, but again it was the common adhesive tool for football players in the past, so the OP just suggested that it might be it judging from the picture/gif.

The more I look at it though, the more it just seems like a thread from his glove. Quality isn't the best, but meh...
