Isn't this the guy we ran right at when Justin Smith was out?
Yes. Although he is a serviceable big guy. Depth option at a possibly modest price.
It's safe to assume that UFAs we target will be of the cap cut variety. With the expected loss of Maxwell for a 3rd round qualifier -- any big UFA signing would have to be considered in essence a 'trade' of a third round pick. That UFA will have to be a major impact talent to warrant getting him.
I see us being mainly interested in modest cut signings for depth, with possible low round trades for guys on the last year of their deals. We don't have many UFA players on our roster that will garner comp pick qualifying offers this year. Given the ability to have multiple 'free' draft picks for a team that really covets having a lot of day 3 picks -- I tend to see Seattle as being a team that seeks to maximize the number of comp picks if they can get them.
From a roster building perspective -- particularly a mature roster like the one we have now -- I tend to think this is a significant component to how we spend our UFA dollars. Already, we've made it a significant component by valuing our own UFAs over outside UFAs.
