Looks like Cowboys are interested.

By doing this, the Cowboys assume all of the potential locker room risk, as well as the discordant effect of continued media distractions, all for a player that isn't even on their roster. But hey, it will give the Cowboys more attention from the media and they'll see a nice boost in jersey sales.

In a way it makes sense. This would be such a Jerry Jones thing to do. Jerry has always been a 'there is no such thing as bad publicity' kind of guy, and someone like that is going to lack a fundamental understanding of the need for strict order and harmony inside an organization (not that this is Sam's fault, but it remains a significant hurdle for his career regardless).

Jones desperately wanted Johnny Manziel in the first round, and tried to sneak the card in with Manziel's name on it over the protests of his FO and own son. Jones has pretty much always had a habit of throwing a wrench into the carefully laid plans of his staff because he thinks his impulsive ideas are smarter.

This whole Michael Sam business is just wrong.

Every SEC Defensive Player of the Year in the last decade went on to be a first (8) or second (2) round pick. Sam gets a flier on the 7th on the team with the deepest D-line in the NFL. Then he gets cut, and doesn't get called to ANY team because most front offices don't want to have to deal with the media distraction.

It's a shame, really.
Were you upset when Jason White, a Heisman winner, and couldn't get signed?

Is it also a shame that Tim Tebow, the only QB under the age of 30 with a playoff win, gets blacklisted from teams in the NFL?

You mean that guy who got crushed in the Championship game and had weak knees and projected as a backup CFL QB?

I was just thinking the other day that if any team picked him up it would be the Cowboys. Jerry Jones will do anything to keep his perpetually mediocre team in the headlines. It's only a matter of time before Sam's on the 53 man roster and playing in a game. Guaranteed.

Cowboys signed him to PS.

On pure football play and what he offers, is the logical fit.

Also happens to be the "media'" fit.

Happy for MSam, I was happy Rams drafted him and thought he did kick-ass in play and also defected the media.

To that point tho, Rams kept media at bay, JJ will roll out the red carpet. Hope they don't make him into a zoo animal there in Dallas. He's a good guy and a good football player.

I think you're putting a little too much thought into this.

His heightened media coverage because of a very interesting and unique personal story (with far greater reaching social effects) gave him a spotlight to perform. And while he didn't dominate by any means, he did well enough + the amount of coverage to probably be noticed by multiple coaches as a potential backup.

Most 7th round/UDFA's don't aren't in the spotlight enough to be noticed.
