My favorite song is "Gold" from the Heist. Awesome track.

Cool story above. Awesome dude. Yes he used to be an addict and is recovering. I believe he has several years sober now after a replapse a few years back.

I live in Oly and remember him from the scene way back in the day. He used to go by "Professor Macklemore". A true lyricist for sure. No more of this pop RB crap rapping about money and sex. He could write a lyric about anything and put it to a beat.

Psh, whats wrong with R&B???

With Macklemore being the new Seattle hiphop ambassador I guess that leaves more time for Sir Mix A Lot to do more lottery jingles?

Not my style of "music" but if he is a Hawk fan, he is alright in my eyes.

No need for the "". It's clearly a subtle insult.

Put lyrics to a beat is mostly done by Ryan Lewis.

His stuff was an acquired taste for me, but I REALLY like it now. I like so many of his tracks, but I'd have to say "Make the Money" is my all time favorite. The "stay grounded" message in that track resonates with me.

We should make a movie about a terminator being sent back in time to kill Macklemore before he gets Smoke reinstated at the CLink. Just an idea.

You are amazingly clarevoyant. AND ignored what I said.

If you're putting quotes around something, you're questioning it's definition as such. It's very clearly music and if you don't like it, you don't have to say anything.

Love the guy, love the ambassador, his old music is cool, but to brutally honest, he is vastly overrated as a lyricist. I was listening to Mack, I dunno, 5-6 years ago, been to several shows, but just never fell in love with his music. A cool line here and there, but I think the production and style is better than the content.

I first met Macklemore back when I first moved to Olympia in 05. Back then he was a local rapper who did a bunch of small shows around town, and was just one of many awesome people that I became friends with upon moving here.

He moved to Seattle in 06, and we kept in touch, he even opened up for me at my CD release party in Seattle. We still stay in touch.

Earlier this season I went to the SF game in Seattle with Dunceface and crew. In the 3rd quarter of the game security came up to my row and motioned me over to them. I went and they told me I had to go because I punched someone in the head. (I didn't everyone sitting around me was just as shocked as I was about it,) They escorted me out of the stadium, and I complied, although SUPER PISSED I didn't cause a ruckas and left. (Although Duncefaces Girlfriend was all up in the cops face..)

a day before the Jags game I get a letter from the Seahawks saying I was banned from Century Link for LIFE. I posted the whole drama to my facebook wall and got a bunch of people to call the Head ticketing agent to atest to my character and try to convince him that I wouldn't do that.

I get a call from the head ticketing agent after they experienced well over 100 calls in my defense. The head of ticketing sales explained " No one saw any confrontation, any communication, or anyone hitting anyone, but the guy needed medical attention, and if you didnt hit him who did. You need to find out who did, and until you do, you are are banned from games. End of conversation.

One of me and dunces mutual friends brought this whole thing to Macklemores attention. Mack had me write him an email about everything that happened, that he said he would pass along to his contact within the organization. Within 2 days Mack sent me a screen shot that came from Pete Carrol's assistant saying that I was cleared and am allowed back at games!!!

He displayed to me absolute kindness and I will forever love him so long as we both shall live.

It makes seeing him win at everything that much more sweeter.

I still get so pissed when I think about that shit! but the reaction to the situation was something to behold in and of itself and Mack came thru big time!
I also remember him from the Oly days back when he used to do that GW Bush song in the mask...

and why does L80 always have to remind everyone he doesn't think hip hop is music whenever it is brought up?? we get it buddy youre a crusty buttrocker, we still like you everything is gonna be ok

From Largent80's posts I get more of the idea of Jimmy Buffett old fat dude in a hawaiian shirt who no one talks to at a party type.

Crusty buttrocker.

Hey, I listen to rock a lot but I grew up listening to the beginnings of Hip-Hop too. Some people can actually listen to more than one genre of music. :escape:

Well, you're "brutally honest" opinion is, as we say, your own reality. Mack gets plenty of props from world-renown 'lyricists,' so excuse me if I don't regard you as a expert on the subject.

Amen. The guys has won a shit ton of awards the past two years or so. Not to mention he's a huge Hawk and Seattle fan, however, it doesn't surprise me that haters who don't know him or appreciate his music will hate.

I don't care for country music but I wouldn't hate on that music in any public forum. To each their own but some like to pass judgement and live in their bubble of what's right.

I feel like L80 and half the people here belong in the Jimmy Buffett camp and they're far from cultured in normal day perspectives but I would never say that...

Macklemore is an inspiring artist, a DIY hero, a good friend, and a salt-of-the-earth guy. Seahawk fan and Seattle ambassador. Hell yeah.

Condescending much? I was downloading his music like 7 years ago, going to shows, and trumpeted him as Seattle's best. Was very happy for him when he made it big.

I would put my love for hip-hop and knowledge of its history against anyone here, particularly when it comes to the great lyricists. He may be one of the best going now, but that isn't saying much. When you put his words up there against some of the greats, he unfortunately just isn't on that level. I come from a time where you had to pause and rewind tracks as you went through them because they were so mind-blowing, you couldn't believe somebody was so genius to put together what you just heard. In that regard, Mack has always been relatively simple and predictable.
