I had 2 Misdemeanor DUIs in 1998, and now I'm not allowed in Canada. Funny, since I was drinking Labatts Blue when I got pulled over, and because a large chunk of Canada's exports are alcohol!

The MOST important thing to me is that I never hurt anyone. Not because of anything I did, but because someone was watching over me.

I've been clean and sober for 24 years, and look for every chance to help someone that is struggling. Alcoholics and Addicts need someone who has been there, in order for them to receive help. Addicts and Alcoholics are very good at bullshitting people. They've been doing it for years to preserve their way of life, but recovering Addicts and Alcohol will call them on their shit. "Been there, done that, so cut the BS !"
Canada can restrict entry based on an American's personal record? How do they gain access?

I hope ML gives up alcohol. I think he has a drinking problem.

Cops were very patient and professional as cops should be.

My guess is that a good legal team will get him off without a conviction, unless they have more proof than what the body cam footage shows.

So far all they have technically is, he was sitting in a broken car that was parked legally, who’s to say he didn’t get effed up after parking.

We all know what “probably” happened but “probably” doesn’t float in court, especially when you have the money to fight.

I’m impressed that he absolutely behaved.

It’s sad and not a good look but many of us have done as bad or worse.
Thankfully it appears that nobody was hurt. This could have ended in tragedy.

That's my concern, it can happen to anybody, I got one when I was a kid, I did everything required, aa meetings, victims panel, concussion lost a few teeth and ruined my car.

I have not stopped drinking but I'm alot smarter about WHERE. Most times I just hang at the house, My wife is not a drinker so she usually drives home from social gatherings, I don't hang out at bars 99.9% of the time and if I do I have a limit.

It's a lifestyle thing and he needs to break the trend, plan ahead and plan your exit strategy or hell hire a driver if you have the money. Most people get it after the first one but I suspect he did not have to do the things you or I would have to go thru if we got popped.

However if he embraces and truly accepts responsibility for what he did, I think he could do a lot of good.

I don't know. I flew to Seattle to help my buddy drive his new pickiup and 5th wheel back to Alaska, and we got stopped at the border. THey tore apart the 5th wheel, scattering shit everywhere. Then, a dude with a gun escorted me back to the US side. I had told my buddy to keep going and I'd find my way home. The guy at the US border inspection just shook his head when I told him what was up. He allowed me to hang out on the inspection so I could hit up every bus driver that came through for a ride to Seattle. Took a couple of hours, but for $25 I got a ride to the Seattle downtown light rail, jumped that to SEATAC, and flew home. I asked them about it, telling them it was only a misdemeanor, but they said they saw it as a felony.

I talked to a lawyer, and his client had been driving truck Fairbanks to Seattle for 30 years. But after he retired, he was driving out, and at the border they looked up his driving record and found an ancient DUI. He gave the lawyer many thousands of dollars to get it cleared.

I think it's a scam by Canada. You can apply for "temporary citizenship," but it's $250 and they can deny it for any reason. You then can appeal it for another $250...and it goes on and on.

I think it's a chickenshit policy, but nothing I can (afford) to do about it.
