If we go back a few years to the Holmgren era and compare that team to todays modern NFL team, they're significant differences to todays teams.

Gone is the FB, more WRs. Todays offenses is all about passing. Thus puts more pressure on defensive backs. So how does defense count this ? They change there ailment lto counter this by going from a front 7 to a front 6 adding 1player into the coverage.

Now you'd think that this change would open up opportunitys in the running game, but not so fast, a RB still has to run by 11 tackles. The biggest thing that is changing is DE's and LB's, lighter DE's and the big thumping MLBers. They need to cover those little swing pass and screens.

Player peasonal and drafting the right players are the real challenge.

Cheers

Actually, we're seeing less receivers now, at least among the top offenses. The 3 most dominant offensive teams in the league just happen to also be the 3 that run the most 21 personnel in the league. SF, Miami, Baltimore.

We're probably going to see a huge renaissance of 21 personnel sweep across the league here. That's 2 receivers, 2 backs, 1 tight end. Move over McVay 11, Shanny 21 is the new hot sensation.
