I don't understand how Norwood nor Richardson really changes the equation or your hopes but its not like any of them were going to start or see significant snaps as the 4th, 5th, or 6th WRs.

And let's not forget that both Zach Miller and Luke Willson are capable of adding 350-500, 5 TDs each to our Offense at the TE position and we have solid to good receivers in our backfield from Lynch to Small...

I agree Miller, Willson, and Lynch can contribute a decent amount of receiving yards.

Not sure how you can jump to the conclusion Kiero Small will contribute though?

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/kiero-small-1.html

Keiro Small only played 2 college seasons according to this source. In 2011 he had 7 receiving yards, in 2013 he had 135 yards.

So Keiro Small had a total of 142 yards in 2 seasons and he averaged a pathetic 6.8 yards per catch. So once again I have no idea why you would categorize Small as a "good" Reciever.

In those same 2 seasons Small only had 152 yards rushing for a terrible 3.7 yards/carry average. So he's really not much of an offensive threat with passing or rushing, we drafted him for his run blocking if I'm not mistaken.

We aren't thin at WR.

Walters is solid enough and savvy, also getting better.

Phil Bates who has been here for 2 years, he's big, strong, lengthy with great athleticism and has built quite the rapport with Wilson over those last 2 years.

Arceto Clark who has been here in the system for a year and looks like he has a niche as a slot WR type.

Kevin Smith with Kearse's help and tutelage has trumped the learning curve and has done well.

I don't understand how Norwood nor Richardson really changes the equation or your hopes but its not like any of them were going to start or see significant snaps as the 4th, 5th, or 6th WR.

We instantaneously become thin at wide receiver if Harvin get's injured. I think it's pretty likely Harvin will get injured since he was unable to play the following game in 2 out of 3 of his games last season. That's not to say it's certain he will get injured, but I think it's much more likely he'll miss a game than he'll play all of them.

I think Walters is bad (or in nicer terms a truly mediocre receiver), the fact that anyone could think he should make our team is a bit embarrassing and insulting to our offense in my personal opinion.

I like what I've seen/heard about Phil Bates, he may have a legit shot to make it as our #6 receiver.

Arceto Clark and Kevin Smith what??? I donno man... those two guys are reminding me a lot of what you said last season:

We'll see... but I think in the end in terms of keeping 5 WRs... Stephen Williams is more valuable that Doug Baldwin. Chris Harper is more valuable than Doug Baldwin.

This is my personal opinion, but it seems that last season you chose two unworthy guys to make the team over Baldwin.

Right now it seems like you are taking 3 unworthy guys (Walters, Clark, Smith) to make the team over 2 worthy ones (Norwood and Richardson).

In my opinion it is a big deal if Norwood and Richardson can contribute. I think the total receiving yard rankings for our 2014 wide receivers should be like this if everything goes perfectly on our offense:

1) Baldwin
2) Harvin (less targets than Baldwin but a great year)
3) Norwood (he looks ready for the NFL and a perfect receiver for Wilson in my opinion)
4) Richardson (he has enough big plays to edge out Kearse)
5) Kearse (continues to produce in clutch plays despite bad hands)
6) Lockette (I really like him to make the team for his special teams and speed)

Now I could see Harvin leading the team but I don't think it's a good idea. I think we should limit his targets and use him intelligently. For example no need to have Harvin in the game when we're up 2 touchdowns in the 2nd half. That's why I have Baldwin as #1.

I think Norwood should be #3 in total yards because he's better than Kearse in my opinion and he looks ready for the NFL. I just have really high hopes for him even compared to Richardson.

Richardson could easily fall to 5, depends if he stays healthy and how fast he learns to compete against NFL defenses, I think Norwood is ahead in this regard.

Kearse could jump all the way up to 3 but I think that would be a bad sign for our receiving corps because he's just not insanely talented in my opinion. Kearse is certainly capable to produce if he keeps making the tough catches even though his hands in my opinion are bad (his catch rate was 10% lower than the team average excluding Kearse). But really Kearse should be a 4-5 receiver not a #3 if we have a good offense.

I think Lockette or Kearse could get knocked off the team for Bates but I just don't know enough Bates to make any kind of conclusions.

Lockette and Kearse have both came up big in games, Kearse makes the catch when you need it, Lockette is now running his routes better based on a thread I seen not long ago and getting praises for his improvement. Bates would have to exceed both of them and since Lockette and Kearse are not bank breakers and proven it will be harder for Bates to move one of them off the squad. Not saying it can't be done it has in the past, but more difficult.

Also if you don't know about a guy how can you say he is better then two guys that have been on the team and showed they can play and contribute under game pressure?

Well I have seen some video of Bates in training camp and it seems all the guys on the podcasts or writing reviews/comments on him seem to be very impressed.

I'm mainly basing that prediction for Bates with my impression that he's the guy who could potentially knock someone off the roster.

I still think the 6 guys I listed above will be the ones who will or should make the team, but I think Kearse and Lockette have the highest chances to get knocked off for Bates. I guess you could throw Richardson in that mix to be threatened by Bates but as our first draft pick and with his speed it seems unlikely.

I think Norwood should easily make the team if he's healthy, but he is unproven in the NFL. So all this is just my best predictions.

I just found this article about Bates:

http://seattletimes.com/html/seahawks/2024247572_seahawks06xml.html

Gonna quote some of the more interesting segments:

Why Phil Bates might be Seahawks’ next breakout receiving star

Seahawks’ Phil Bates has the size and hands to catch the ball, but now the guy once best known for a fight in training camp could be this season’s Jermaine Kearse?

Through the first 10 days of training camp, the third-year receiver from Ohio University has ranked as one of the team’s breakout players and suddenly a legitimate threat to make the final 53-man roster.

“He has really been productive,’’ said coach Pete Carroll earlier in camp. “He’s been active. He’s made a bunch of big plays.’’

Seattle, which had him in for a workout before the draft, was intrigued by Bates’ athleticism and size. The 6-foot-1 Bates weighs 220 pounds — more than any other Seahawks receiver.

“He has really shaped and sculpted his body,’’ Carroll said. “He looks like a receiver. He has all the movements now. And he’s a very tough competitor, too. So we love what he’s doing.’’

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson recently compared Bates’ emergence this year to that of Jermaine Kearse a season ago.

“He’s got great speed, great hands,’’ Wilson said. “He’s got paws. I mean, I’ve got huge hands. He’s got really big hands as well, and he just catches the ball extremely well.’’

With Norwood injured, Ricardo Lockette, Bryan Walters — who each were on the 53-man roster for the Super Bowl — and Bates now loom as finalists for the last one or two receiving positions.

Cool find, just remember every Pre Season we have stars that once the dust settles don't quite make it. Although with dings and injuries he may get his shot.

I think the OP's concern is valid, so is talking about it on a forum dedicated to talking about the team. Not sure why so many people have to jump all over him like they're doing in this thread. If you don't like what he's saying, that's perfectly fine, ignore the thread and move on. I love .net but some of the people around here...smh

Hi, welcome to the internet. It's a wonderful place for the exchange of ideas and the debate over the validity of those ideas. Sometimes the debate will be civil and well-supported on both sides. Sometimes, it won't. But rare will be the occasion when an opinion is given, and everyone will just say, "Yeah, that sounds about right." Differing opinions will be voiced. If everyone who didn't like the OP's opinion just ignored the thread and moved on, then this thread would say, "I'm concerned about Richardson," followed by a bunch of posts that said, "Me too." Gripping.

What you are saying is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people being outright jerks about it. Yeah it's the internet, it happens, blah blah blah. The thing is, we're all the same side. We're all Seattle fans, so I really don't think it's really that hard to be civil.
