The cap hit from giving Tyler up this season is harsh. Next season? Maybe. But if Lock shows to be competent (not a star, relax) having Tyler with DK and Fant isn’t exactly a bad thing to have in any situation when you’re looking at probably having starter the next two seasons (or beyond) on a rookie deal.
Good point…..cap hit not so good. I would assume any DK extension wouldn’t take effect until after next season so that may be a better time to deal Lockett. We’ll have substantially more cap space next season to with all the dead money from this year coming off The books.

Next years cap space is gonna be fun but we will probably end up spending a chunk to retain guys Fant & Brooks

In the era of 4 WR sets in high school and college football, WRs are cheap and easy to replace. Just like DBs and running backs.

The last time a first-round pick was an All-Pro WR was in 2019. Hill 5th round, Samuel 2nd round, Kupp 3rd round, Adams 2nd round, Diggs 5th round, Antonio Brown (before he was crazy) 5th round, Brandon Marshall 2015 All-Pro 4th round.

Moving forward giving big money to a WR will be just as dumb as giving money to a running back.

WR’s have a considerably longer shelf life than RB’s and can serve multiple purposes than just running routes and catching tho.

In the case of Dk he’s 24, you probably got 8-10 more years of prime play from him that you probably won’t replace.

An interesting maneuver would be to see what teams that are asking for DK, would give for Lockett. Hate to lose him, but no reason to be paying two WRs that much. If we could re-sign DK, swap Lockett out for some solid picks (His numbers represent a #1b WR) we still may be able to blow this draft out of the water and keep DK. if we could get a late first or early 2nd round pick plus a middle round pick would be nice.

That could cause other issues. We trade Tyler. which leaves us with only 1 proven Wr who will now get all the attention. Can DK handle it? we really don't know.

That can be replaced in the 5th round with Hill or Diggs or AB

keep both receivers. find a QB that can throw to them.

That's all. We let DK walk, and we're gonna be sorry. I've said some shit about him - but with everything that's gone on - we need to keep him AND no E. They are farming around for 'something' QB related - so who knows what we're in for.

I'd take Newton (or someone like him) as a bridge to throw to both our guys for a year until we figure it out. DON'T strip the cupboard bare with these 2. You can't buy No E's attitude for any amount of $, and a megatron-like dude like DK comes around once in 20 years.

Keep them both, hedge the QB situation, and carry on. You lose these two and we're the ******* Browns for a decade. In my opinon. Pay them both. They are the team right now. Rember - cap gets lifted of our dead weight next year. Just have to survive this year without a total ******* meltdown - and keeping these two is a good way to start.
