And Tom Brady saved Bill Belichick's job.

Carroll has proven himself to be one of the great talent evaluators in the history of the game at both the college and pro levels. To diminish his accomplishments by implying he "lucked" into selecting Russell Wilson (or Richard Sherman or Kam Chancellor or Earl Thomas) betrays a lack of respect for the totality of Carroll's contributions to this franchise and to the game itself.

Matt Flynn couldn't beat out Russell then he went to Oakland and couldn't out play Pryor...who is now battling to be our third string QB. He did manage to go 2-2 in Green bay last season but didn't look very good doing it. Duck city.

Better question is did John Schneider save Pete's career. Answer is yes.
Although Pete and RW approach the game much the same and lead with infectious optimism these two would not have come together without Schneider ' s vision. You could say RW saved Pete and vice versa but Schneider was the man who convinced Pete that Wilson was the one.
I think this thread is ridiculous, to be playing what might have been, it shows we need football season to start so we can have reasonable discussions, however, I'll play along...
Without Pete, there would be no John Schneider..! Pete hired him, so he is just another part of Pete's brilliance.

Pete Carroll picked John Schneider to be his GM. Schneider then banged the table for Russell Wilson. Carroll trusted his executive and agreed to draft Wilson, which was a controversial move at the time. Then Carroll picked him to start over the established veterans on the roster, which was even more controversial. So yes, Russell Wilson saved Pete Carroll, in the sense that Pete Carroll being an awesome coach saved Pete Carroll's job. (Not that he was even on the hot seat after only two seasons of overhauling a terrible roster.)

He was never on the hot seat, so no. The job was never there for the saving.

If anyone can remember Mr. Allen committed to some drastic changes before PC was brought in. Firing a head coach after just one year as well as the general manager. He saw that the team was in football hell. He went to PC and liked very much his ideas for running a winning team. It was immediate the impact PC had on the team. But Mr. Allen had to have known the time it would take to turn this wreck of a team around. So no PC was not on the hot seat. Remember PC was given great authority and even was key in the hiring of JS. How many coaches gets to pick the GM? Mr. Allen gave PC the greatest gift he could, time.
