There's no guarantees in life, especially in the NFL. All any team can hope for is that the next regime is a winning lottery ticket. Unfortunately that becomes the exception not the rule. While I side with those that think it was time to move on, otherwise risk continuing this vicious cycle of good but not good enough, it's a very real possibility that we could become bottom feeders, aka the 1990's all over again for the foreseeable future.

I don't think that will happen since we have a solid talent base and established culture, but man, who knows?

People got they wanted. The next coach better do better or a lot of people will look dumb. No moving goalposts either.
Who is moving the goal posts now? Nothing is guaranteed in life. Will we succeed with the new regime? Who knows, but i rather try and fail than continue with the same crap that we were fed for the last 10 years!

That’s a strange way to look at it and it sounds like you will be rooting for it to happen that way. No one is “dumb” for wanting change and no one was dumb for wanting to run it back one more year with Pete. This is vs them thinking that’s so common today is wild to me

Remember all the posts about Jody not being involved, not caring, never gonna' have the guts to fire Pete?
Those assumptions were clearly wrong.

And yes, I didn't think she would at all.
You can add me to that list. I never thought she'd have the courage to pull the trigger. I was wrong.

For those of you pining for Jim Harbaugh, if John Schneider has anything to say about it, I seriously doubt that he'd consent to hiring Harbaugh.

Think about it for a minute. Schneider has spent the past 14 years in an unconventional role as being subservient to the head coach. Now that he has finally been set free from that yoke, do you really think that he would want to bring in as a head coach someone who is going to want to control everything?

In his only NFL job, Harbaugh had a huge problem working with his GM and ended up leaving the team in a shambles. He would be a very risky hire.

But think of the improvements he could could make to the seagals choreography.

When all is said and done, it doesn't matter if the team goes 2-15 or 9-8 and not make the playoffs. If you're not a TRUE contender, then you're in the same boat as the majority of the league. There are only a handful of teams each year that have a legit shot at the big prize. Outliers like those Giants teams are very few and far between. This team hasn't been a TRUE contender for a very long time. So what if the next coach turns out to be dog poo? You fire his ass in 3-5 years and try again. It's still better than being in the limbo that we've been in since The Play.

Florida and loving GOP country!
Agreed. This is what 49er fans prayed for in 2005, and it's exactly what they got when the team brought in Mike Nolan. What followed is eight years of pure HADES. Not one winning season. Not one playoff berth. We got three seasons of redemption with Harbaugh, but got sent right back to Purgatory again after Jim was forced out to Michigan. Sometimes moves like these backfire. Badly.
The saving grace is that JS is in charge of the new hire. He knows what it takes and the type of coach this team needs after being alongside Pete for all of these years. If Jody totally cleaned house then I would be very worried. Pete is 72 and this was going to come, so it was time to rip off the band-aid and start the process.

Chuck Knox to Tom Flores, Mike Holmgren to Jim Mora. That history makes me uneasy.
Does Mike McCormack to Knox, Dennis Erickson to Holmgren, and Mora to Pete make you feel any less uneasy or at least show the possibilities?

Exactly how long did we expect Pete to continue coaching anyway? I have a hard time imagining more than a couple years before he left regardless of the outcome. What then? The same thing is happening now, we're just getting a head start on the next era.

Here and there
I'm personally anxious to see how John does in the upcoming draft now minus Pete. I only wish we had last years number of picks this next draft.

PC is only out as HC . He's still will be in place in an ' advisory ' position . That could mean more than what we assume it means . He might be instrumental in choosing the new HC or behind the scenes in the upcoming draft . He still has considerable juice in the Hawk organization . imo

The Niners got sent back to the purgatory the year BEFORE Harbaugh was forced to leave for Michigan. He left the team in shambles, ending a years long power struggle with the GM.

I probably would have given him another year, but emphasize that the defense has enough talent to be top half, and if you want to keep Hurt, it likely won't end well. But I get it. 25-25 or whatever since 2021. That year and this year were underachievements, and even the '20 season was kind of a letdown.
