Been digesting his press conference and reading former players/staff kind words for Pete. It's amazing the impact he has made over the past ~15 years, not only on the football field but in their personal lives. Mentor, father figure, always supporting his guys. His belief system is to make every individual achieve their potential and support them as much as he possibly can. People with his character aren't common, especially in a sport that tends to promote the 'asshole' attitudes who crushes your guys if you don't do your best. Pete takes that as a lesson and helps you grow from it. He's really an amazing human.

It's clear he didn't want this to be his last year in Seattle but he immediately points to how excited he is for JS to get his opportunity as the head guy. There was certainly some snark about 'good luck' being on his own for the first time in 14 years (something JS hasn't been coy about wanting), though I think he genuinely wants him to do well. He was honest for the first time in forever that his team just didn't have the edge he wanted anymore, something we've all been complaining about. So I think even if he didn't want this to be it, he understands why it happened. That said, there's no way Pete will be an advisor. His answers today were clear he was caught off guard and it was just a respectful way of letting him down. Heading to LA as the Chargers coach, getting full control of a talented but leaderless organization for a couple years back in a city he loves, seems like a good fit for his final years.

We will see what happens, although Pete hasn't been able to get the team over the hump for 5-6 years and the team felt like it was trending in the wrong direction, having a HOF coach with an 8+ win floor is something rare in the NFL. I think a change was ultimately needed but we're in uncertain times for the first time in a long time.

A lot of people did not have that respect, instead opting to regularly call him demented and other names.

It's fine to want to move on. But there was a lot more than that.

A bunch of people were actively rooting for failure solely to make Pete look worse and admitted so

well I guarantee many “pro Pete” people will be doing the same next year to say “told you so!” People are stupid.

I was very vocal about wanting a change but never rooted or failure or wanted to see Pete fail to look worse. Our country being divided because of the issue that can’t be named, has made every topics discourse similar….us vs them and it’s low IQ stuff.

None of that from me. The uncertainty has become a necessity. Has been for a while. It has been way too long since this team has provided the regular entertainment and excitement I crave from my team. I would take the 90s again for a chance at something great over the mired-in mediocracy mess this team has become. The extreme likelihood is that this team would continue to be exactly what it has been for nearly a decade if Pete was allowed to continue. I am just hoping that some of the championship culture he built in the organization is still present so the next guy doesn't have to start from scratch like he did.

I am excited for next season in a way I haven't been since 2015 or so.
Me too. I’m pumped for what’s coming next.

Our next coach may not be my preferable coach, but I'm never going to call them literally demented for winning over half their games

If Pete goes on and starts dicking people down elsewhere, I will absolutely throw a few I Told You So's out. Such would be my right, within reason, after half a decade of this internal schism.

I'm just saying. There might have been more of that type of comment here than you're acknowledging in your post. It wasn't a majority, but it wasn't insignificant.

That’s fair but it’s expected. It’s no different that the stuff people say about Russell Wilson and attacking his character like he’s a horrible human. People suck and say shitty things. I expect a ton next year sadly but my hope is everyone moves on and enjoys the team

I think he's a diva, but I'm not gonna call him Hitler or anything.

That’s my point tho many acted like he was a piece of %#_! And it’s no different. People are weird. I’ll just say I’m happy most people who wanted to move on have been very respectful

I just had a thought. Could anyone see Pete going back to NCAA for one last hurrah ? Pumped and jacked ?
Hey, maybe Harbaugh can be Seattle’s new HC and Pete can coach Michigan? This would be alright by me.

The way the Seahawks got to Carroll in the first place, moved on from a future HoF in Holmgren only 3 years removed from the Super Bowl, dumped Mora after 1 yr, got to Carroll.

Careful what you for, Holmgren was the only coach that got the team to a Super Bowl in their entire history. Good luck doing better than that.

What I'm trying to say is, the Seahawks will be more than fine, even if the next guy is Jim Mora part II. They'll dump him, and on to the next.

The Eagles fired Andy Reed, and replaced him with Chip Kelly, fired him, hired Doug Pedersen. Fired him, and got Nick Siriani and went back to the Super Bowl again. And he'll get fired soon if he doesn't turn it around.

The 9ers burned through a bunch of HCs after Harbaugh 'til they hired Kyle.

And I could go on and on. This is the way of the NFL, if you take a look around outside of your Seahawks bubble. Which I shouldn'thave to say as the Seahawks did the same thing getting to Carroll.

The Jags have burned through a bunch HCs since 2017, and have more playoff wins than the Seahawks since as well.

But with that, I'm thinking this is more like a Jeff Fisher situation. The Rams were talented, but flawed. They needed a young coach with attention to detail to come in, clean things up, and modernize.

Or the Bengals with Marvin Lewis, needed to modernize.

The Seahawks I'm sure have recognized this. So I'm very excited to see who they hire.

I have to say that I've been a Pete Carroll guy from the beginning. With that being said I understand the desire for change and the potential need for change in the head coach position.

However, there is a part of me that feels a degree of trepidation. The history of the Seahawks moving from a coaching legend to the next guy hasn't been pretty...and it has the potential to not be pretty again. The Seahawks need to be extremely careful about the next guy.

Chuck Knox to Tom Flores, Mike Holmgren to Jim Mora. That history makes me uneasy.

I guess I don't agree with the premise that anyone thinking a change was warranted was super disrespectful by default. I know its rare in todays binary good vs evil, us vs them world but its a completely reasonable take to respect the hell out of Pete, love what he did for this city and think it was probably time for a change. That doesn't making anyone less of a fan, disrespectful or anything else.
I know right, or the people that implied that because some of us wanted a change we hated Pete!!

Yes. And why aren't they mad at the organization for dumping Pete?

If they got so angry at dudes on a message board for merely mentioning it.

They should be on the warpath for the people (The Seahawks) that actually pulled the trigger.

But they have no balls. Unlike Jody. And capitulated immediately.

People got they wanted. The next coach better do better or a lot of people will look dumb. No moving goalposts either.

The grass is far from always greener folks. Careful what you wish for and don't @ me when the new scapegoat doesn't work out
Agreed. This is what 49er fans prayed for in 2005, and it's exactly what they got when the team brought in Mike Nolan. What followed is eight years of pure HADES. Not one winning season. Not one playoff berth. We got three seasons of redemption with Harbaugh, but got sent right back to Purgatory again after Jim was forced out to Michigan. Sometimes moves like these backfire. Badly.
