Wonder if the Lance fetish fan club will still update us on his time with the cowboys.
A lot of critics are blasting the niners over their handling of Lance, and I have to completely disagree with them. The mistake was drafting him in the first place. He was never going to lead them to success in his first or second season, and waiting for year 3 is way too long to be trading up in the draft to get. Their biggest and main mistake happened on draft day, and everything else was downhill from that.
The great success story of Purdy (and really any player who comes out of nowhere) has a flipside: some player losing their job. In this case it was Trey Lance. The niners got the wins with Purdy that they wanted with Lance. They could either pretend last season doesn't matter or they could accept that Lance is not their best option going forward. They chose to go with Purdy and it makes sense to do so.
Getting a 4th round pick and getting his salary off the books is a huge win for the niners as it is highly unlikely that Lance was ever going to make it work in SF.
The Cowboys overpaid, but they overpaid to be the team who gets the first crack at trying to build him up in a situation with much less pressure. If Lance is ever going to be a starting QB he'll need to start with the basics and fundamentals and go from there. He was already a project, but now he's a project with an injury history and one failed relationship with a team.
I think Cooper Rush is a better QB than Dak. So not this year for sure. Can Trey Lance beat out Cooper Rush as backup to Dak Prescott?
Relegated to No. 3 in San Francisco, Trey Lance wanted to go from a place where he had a better chance of being No. 2.www.nbcsports.com
Because there is no expectation of him starting. In SF he lost the starting job, but in Dallas he doesn't have it at all. Like all young backup QBs he will be developed with the hope that he can turn into something. In SF there was no way of that being allowed to happen due to his draft position. As a cowboy he is merely a 4th round QB with a more expensive contract. They clearly like his physical tools, now they want to see if they can turn him into a legit QBHow are the cowboys going to build him up tho? They’re contenders as much as sf is. Cooper has carried what, six games for Dak due to injury, he’s proven.

could be a super super super late bloomer, like Geno. All 30 seconds of highlights. Lance will be out of the league within 3 years. He's got a couple of seasons hiding on Dallas's roster but his time will draw near once he has to actually play.
Does anyone remember the QB bust predictor, the 26-27-60 rule for drafting quarterbacks? It was scoring a 26 on the Wonderlic, 27 college starts, and 60 percent career completion percentage. All 30 seconds of highlights. Lance will be out of the league within 3 years. That's excellent. One thing I would like to add , is where and who the prospect played college football. He wasn't tearing the world a new ass at North Dakota.Does anyone remember the QB bust predictor, the 26-27-60 rule for drafting quarterbacks? John P. Lopez: Rule of 26-27-60 helps predict QB success
But could a simple formula have warned us of Russell's lack of NFL readiness? And Ryan Leaf's and David Carr's and other failed, high-pick quarterbacks? Call itwww.si.com
Lance started in just 17 games for North Dakota State.
No way John pays for the first round. He usually trades it!!Three firsts and a third to move up 9 spots to take him with the #3 overall and they bail after two years getting a measly 4th round pick in return. That sort of puts our trade for Adams in perspective, doesn't it?
Misery loves company. I can just imagine John Lynch and John Schneider sitting in a bar with tears in their beers. Schneider will probably have to pay for the first round.
