I am not generally against women in sport broadcasting per se, however some have dreadful shill voices that make it hard to listen to.

ESPN had this (VERY VERY QUALIFIED) woman on some of their NHL national broadcasts and I had to turn the sound off.

She knew the game, the players the rules but I couldn't take the tonality.

I hear what you’re saying. The shrillness can be handled with voice coaching, but further it shouldn’t be amplified in the lead position.

The females in sports broadcast learned their craft with “bimbo voice“ encouraged. I mean, you’re in some studio with 2-5 guys in your four inch heels and some Ciara looking outfit, your Voice becomes less important.

Having said that tho, no one wants a ball buster either

Can you point to a few examples of women using this "bimbo voice" as a sports broadcaster?

Angie Mentink has done a few Mariners games. She's pretty good. 🤷‍♂️
Angie would be much better is she didn’t try so hard. She’s excellent on pre and post shows, on in game commentary she needs to talk less, it feels like she is trying to prove herself, something she doesn’t have to do as she has the chops, and just needs to let it flow naturally.

She needs to copy Mike Blowers example of in game commentary, which is less is more. It took Blowers time to learn it as well.

It's weird how territorial fans are with announcers.

You guys do know that ALL announcers are nomads who bounce around for a VERY long time before hopefully settling in a career job.

Did people call Kevin Callabro a traitor because he went to the Blazers post Sonics? Or that he came from KC?

Besides, who cares, she's just doing pre-season. No one should be fired up about pre-season announcers.

Pre-season games are actually harder to do than regular season games. Instead of 53 players on each team, there are 90, and you really have to do your homework to understand the position battles and what the fans are interested in. For example, the announcers most likely won't even tell us if Olu takes over for Brown on the second series--much less pay attention to how he's playing, even though that's the kind of thing we want to know. Expect to be disappointed.

As a lifelong Blazer fan I was excited about Kevin until he actually started calling games for us. I know he is a legend but we came from Bill Schonely who was equally legendary and even Brian Wheeler and it just didn't feel right to my ears.

I have a hard time mustering up much enthusiasm for play by play announcing in televised football. Everything you need to know is on the screen already and the referees have mics. "That pass... downside.. and it is grabbed by Tyreek Hill! How did he get his hands on the ball?" just doesn't provide value to me these days.

Color commentating can be interesting if the personality is fresh out of the league with actual insight. That knowledge fades quickly though due to how fast the NFL moves. Why should I care what Troy Aikman thinks about 2023 schemes? I don't believe that he understands them nearly as well as the active coaching staff on either side does, and if that's the case then what's the merit to listening to him praising or criticizing those coaches? The whole thing becomes one big adventure into narrative fallacy land.

I don't like women

You (and other cromags) could have just stopped there.

commentators in football, I don't like them as sideline reporters, and I don't like them as play by play. I want ex players that know the game better than I do. I want experts.

Trust me, any commentator, male or female, knows the game better than you do.

I get paid obscene amounts of money to sell software, not pontificate on Football. I have no problem listening to women be play by play for sports they are intimately familiar. I love watching pro tennis and both Chris Everett and Martina navrtilova are awesome. I would prefer retired NFL player give me their insights on a game. We have no shortage of those. There is no upside for a woman that has never played to be Play by play for me. I love women, I just don't need them in my ear when watching football.
