Again, I think that is mostly a defensive problem. Both the Saints and Cowboys have had some really bad defenses over the last few years.

Imagine pairing an incredible defensive coach (Pete Carroll) with a good ZBS play caller (Pete Carmichael). That's a match made in heaven, for me.

I know the Seahawks led the NFL in DVOA rushing and won a Super Bowl in 2013.

With Okung and Unger. You're continuing to prove that point.

Maybe Carmichael (or someone like him) could do it again for us with Brown and Britt, et al.

We do need a great RB, IMO, in addition to a good possession receiver.

My thought is, Carmichael could get it done. BUT he would have to overhaul the entire line with ZBS talent. We have the RB stable to get the job done. It's easier to get a OL/OC/RB coach that can scheme for the power football our OL has spent years learning in College and otherwise than to replace 5 starters and backups with ZBS specialists. Plus, OL/OC/RB coach doesn't count against the cap. We have elite OL talent, being poorly utilized.

Because their defense ALWAYS sucks. That has nothing to do with their ZBS.

They are the #1 DVOA running team this year. They were the #3 DVOA running team last year.

Also, see original post. Who is their center? Literally the ONLY elite ZBS center. If he goes down, they're 7-9 again. I'll buy you a beer if they make it to the Superbowl.

I think center is the least of our problems on the OL. Justin Britt has blocked very well over the last two years.

Dallas center Travis Frederick has been to four-consecutive Pro Bowls. Dallas runs ZBS on most of their running plays. They are the #2 DVOA running team this year, even without Ezekiel Elliot for six games.

Most of the best running teams since 2011 have run ZBS.

And since 2011 how many of them have put rings on their fingers?

Dude, ZBS and their offense is not the proximate cause of lacking SB rings. Give it up.

When someone beats NE for a championship with a ZBS I will buy what you're selling.

The Denver Broncos under Kubiak ran ZBS the year they won the Superbowl in 2015.

The Seahawks in 13.

The Falcons who played in the Superbowl last yr. and set records on offense used the ZBS.

That is just recently. Cable has to go, it's not the scheme. It's the coach.

Exactly , he can't teach or inspire players.

Deal!

Saints get Carolina at home in the divisional round, and they have had Carolina's number.

Then they get the Eagles (who have no starting QB) in the divisional round, assuming the Rams beat the Falcons.

Lastly, they get either the Vikings (in-door turf stadium they prefer) or the Rams in the NFC Championship.

Saints vs. Patriots Super Bowl. Arguably, the Saints have one of the easiest paths.

Lol you're really blaming a lack of rings on the ZBS. That's some dedication there. Also, Unger isn't even the best ZBS center in his own division, that would be Alex Mack.

The Giants did twice. The Broncos beat them twice in the AFC title game with zone blocking. Stop posting your ignorance.

To some degree, you’re right. On the other hand, it’s that “first year flash in the pan AND Peyton.” Find me at the Clink and I’ll buy you a cold one.

Lay off Sox. A lot of people don't like ZBS because they didn't have it when they played football. It's good that there is a thread to quash the myth once and for all. It is true that ZBS has had to evolve with the many rule changes, but it remains an extremely effective system in its many forms.

People post on this site that were playing football before the 1950’s? It is real simple if you played football and were taught to cut block you where a type of zone blocking system.

I mean they personally played in a gap blocking system that was predominant until around a decade ago. Zone blocking in some form dates back to the 50s, yes. But it was not the predominant method of blocking for a long time; it was used sparingly.

It's a fad that will fade back to obscurity. Meh, not really dying on a hill, just calling a spade a spade. If anyone has any tangible reasons why our offensive line looks like children playing amongst men, I'm all ears.
