If you could, please name the FA O-linemen that we could/should of gotten instead and the numbers that go with? Not saying your wrong but without it your argument is mute and fantasy league like.

I'm sure JS wished he had another 50 mil in cap space to fix the O-line as well but reality has forced them to work really hard to figure out what puzzle pieces go with what dollar value and where the new parts at the best value can be had. I believe we will still end up with 2 or 3 veteran OL guys on cheap short term deals to bridge the gap of last years and this years draftees. Will it be better? That remains to be seen but I trust the guys that are making those decisions for real much more than all the keyboard GMs here. Myself included.

Why fans want to take weapons away from Russ when this offense is clearly moving towards being geared completely around him is beyond me.

Based on the sheer dollars of the contract and the recent FA signings, in a weak WR FA class, I can't see how anyone could honestly be bothered.

I think some need to come to terms with the likely fact that RW is going to be throwing the ball 40 times a game next season. 35, at least.
It's a good deal IMHO.

BUT... if you think Russ is going to be throwing the rock 35-40 times per game, I think you're a little off base. We may have a game or two where that will be necessary, and I'm confident Russ and Co will step up and do it when required, but I don't expect it every week. No way. The base offense won't change that much. It will be balanced attack with run emphasis, just like before, barring unforseeables like injuries. Book it.

LT-Beachum (if healthy) since before his injury was considered by some to be the best OL free agent. Might be able to get him for less than he's worth. LG-Evan Mathis despite his age was one of the best run blockers last season according to PFF. There are more here: http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/5 ... ree-agents

If they can sign two studs like Beachum / Mathis / Wisniewski ect then draft two more OL early while adding another quality OLB+DL to help the pass rush via draft / free agency, I'll be happy with the Kearse signing.

I'm fine with the names provided on cap friendly deals but I don't think the word "stud" fits with any of them. One has medical concerns, one is 34 & the downside of his career & S.W. can't seem to hold a spot on two teams in rebuild mode the last couple years. However, I think there will be 2 or 3 guys like that added before the draft.

It could of been used to resign Okung but stud might be debatable with him as well. I would love Okung back but I also get people not feeling that way.

Beachum before the injury was considered a top 10 LT by a lot analysts, so if he recovers from injury he'll be a stud and Mathis was rated 3rd best run blocker by PFF last season. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2 ... is-season/

Didn't mean to say Wisniewski was a stud, he's a solid vet that's said not to do anything exceptionally good or bad.

I will take a few more draft picks instead and continued development of our younger OL like Gilliam, Lewis, Britt, Glowinski, and Sokoli. Hopefully we draft a tackle early, LT or RT if we move Gilliam to LT. I think we sign FA who do not break the bank to compete. We dog on some of these guys and they only have two years under their belt. The state of OL in the league is down, every team thinks they need improvement.

It would be nice to get a new Robbie Tobeck as a FA though. That dude anchored the line for years. I just don't see it.

Glad we have Kearse, I really thought the big catches would get him an overpriced offer. I was thinking GB or Detroit maybe. I do not think anyone looks at Baldwin, Kearse, and Lockett and says "pedestrian" anymore.

When you see that Chris Hogan just got a $4M APY and front-loaded deal from the Patriots, I don't see how you can consider Kearse's deal an overpay. The market is out of whack, and Seattle still got pretty decent terms.

I was just going to post this. Chris Hogan has 959 yards and 6 TDs. In his career.

What these two said.

He averaged 34.7 pass attempts over the past seven games. Granted, that was with a depleted running game.

You're probably right, but it was clear as day on how the offensive philosophy changed quite a bit during the second half of last season. I just think it will continue - not drastically - but I do believe Russ will be asked to do more in the passing game.

To people who don't really like this new deal, If kearse blocks out browner and butler doesn't get to lockette, would you be happier with this new contract?

That one will forever and always be on the OC, not Kearse. Kearse was asked to win a battle he physically should not be able to win.

Yes, it was brain-dead play design for THAT matchup. Kearse at 215 is supposed to blow ultra-physical Browner at 240 off the line? Especially when Browner knows exactly what's coming? Against almost any other corner in the league, Kearse wins that battle.

I've also wondered what was on Russell's mind when he saw that matchup the play was predicated on, or if he even noticed it. A QB has so much to think about in the blink of an eye. Actually RW has said all he did was trust the play call. So definitely on the OC.

I think I'm fully in on the move now. It's essentially 3.7 a year for two years and the team has options after that. Even if Richardson blows past him at some point that's a good thing.

P-Rich is slowly solidifying himself as 'P-REACH' to me. Not necessarily from a skill standpoint, but his durability issues loom large. My fingers are crossed, but he just doesn't inspire enough confidence to say he'll be on the field enough to matter.

Hard to blame you. I still believe in his talent and hoping he can come back and stay healthy. He will have a full off season and camp leading into the season. Fingers crossed as well.

Mathis for 6 million is one reason I wasnt a huge fan. There is the offensive lineman where the Kearse money could of helped support. I hope we have a plan for the offensive line...

The teams stated priority was to resign Seahawks players first and foremost.

Then second, to look outside last years roster for signings that fit.

That has been their SOP for a couple of years now.

That assumes Mathis wanted to come here in the first place and that we wanted him.
