Would Okung be re-signed if his contract were up this year?

And if if was, would there be a performance clause in the contract?

He's great WHEN/IF he's healthy, but very injury prone.Time to trade
him for a high draft pick or cut bait to move on to a more consistent starter?

It's almost as if we got him in a trade from Minnesota who always
dump injury prone players on us.

Okung spends too much time protecting the sauna and not enough time protecting his QB to be re sighned with out that performance clause. He would probably walk on the performance clause issue though. He doesn't really fit the offense. He doesn't move well and hurts himself attempting to. He would be better guarding the blind side of a statue like Rivers, Brady, or Mannings and our QB's would be better with a more agile LT to protect their blind side.

Okung will cost us less to re-sign than he did to draft and LT's are tough to find. Re-sign him.

Guys missed more games than every LT from 1977 to 2009 combined. I did the research a few weeks ago. We need to go out and draft a new LT. Resign Okung and let the new guy beat him out of the job.

At this point we need to look at LT as the area of greatest need in the draft.

I say we start over on offense outside of Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch! Replace everybody! Trade them all away and draft, draft, draft!

He's not injury-prone. He's had a tough run of bad luck that's impossible to predict.

Respectfully disagree.

6 games missed his first year with high ankle sprains on both ankles.
4 games missed second year with admittedly flukish injury.
No games missed last year.
What will it be, 9, 10 games missed this year?

If you've missed large chunks of games in 3/4 of your NFL seasons, you're injury-prone. I don't care if it's from meteors striking you on the field.

Edit: not saying I would not resign him, you draft an LT and they might suck or be injury-prone also. I would hope to put something in the contract to protect from injury if possible. And try to draft a decent backup.

The reason to let somebody go is because you have a better player waiting to take their spot. Is that what you think we have in McQuistan? This thread is analogous to the cut Rice threads in that for some reason people want to address an area of weakness by getting rid of the best player at that position. I get that people are frustrated, but the way to address weakness is by drafting well in that area and then letting the new players compete and win jobs over the current group.

As far as building future personnel goes, I think every mock next off season will have nothing but offensive linemen and receivers for the Seahawks. And the board will melt down when our first round pick is a linebacker.

Why on earth would anyone think we would find a better LT than Okung in the draft? Yes, all the best LT's are taken in the bottom 5 picks of the 1st round or later.

Last time we drafted a tackle late in the first we got a LG that people are still bitching about.

He's a great tackle, and those are hard to find.

Okung's not hard to find at all. Look in the steam sauna. He is there most game days. ;)

I'm with salishhawk on this one.

Agree with all of what you said 45.

Also agree that good LTs are difficult to find after the first 15 picks. However, it can be done as the Titans will tell you after getting Michael Roos from Eastern Washington in round 2. Yes, it's the exception to the rule but if JS can find an All-Pro corner in round 5, I would be hopeful he could find a quality starting LT somewhere after the first 15 picks.

The endless games lost by Okung to injury are putting RW at risk. Franchise QBs don't grow on trees and must be protected.

Schneider and Carrol have done such a good job overall on talent evaluation, especially on the Defense side of the ball.
We just seem to miss so many times on the OL throughout history. Remember McIntosh from Wisconsin? held out
for more $$ then had a freak neck injury, then when we do get talent idiots (Ruskell) let them get away with nothing in return.

Cable just seemed to do a better job last year getting the OL to work together with what seems to be the tradition in
Seattle of a different OL combination almost every game for the last 3 years.

The truth is we are one Russell Wilson injury away from disaster. Seeing him chased so much and taking so many hits
is really making me nervous. Maybe we should put Jackson in until or OL returns? We might take a few losses, but
at least he stays healthy for SF and NO.

Can he be restructured/extended after this season? If so, I want to lock him up long term, however, what I feel he's worth and what he wants are two different things. We need to clear some space to bring in talent for this line BADLY. Offense HAS to be the priority in the offseason (2 O-Tackles [Free Agency], 2 Guards, #1 WR & a TE) + some depth on the defense. Okung also needs some injury clauses in his contract to protect us from paying a guy who spends time on the bench every year.

Do I want us to re-sign him? Hell yes.
Do I think he should be paid according to his talent on the field? Hell no. Not until he can stay on it.

Almost every good OT these days has injury history. Branden Albert is probably the best available on the Free Agent Market next season.
