Ghana has to make up two goals in goal differential...actually, they need to really make up THREE goals in GD. Portugal has to make up more than that.

As close as the U.S. was to getting in outright, at this point, the only bad result is getting blown out by the Germans AND Ghana or Portugal winning by multiple goals.

Anyone think Klinsmann calls up his friend and former assistant Joachim Low sometime between now and Thursday?

Someone needs to teach Michael Bradley about time management at the end of games. Hold the ball when you have it. Tried to hard and got caught.

Michael Bradley sucks ass. He's a sore thumb to this WC experience. It's like watching Jerome James play for the Sonics. Smh

France in 2002, it looks like. Brazil faltered in 1966. Scratch that. Italy 2010 was the last.
Italy in 2010 also...

Again, the US had a good game. You guys will pass the group stage, no doubt about it.

Yeah, that was painful. I was able to draw myself out of despair by realizing that we are still sitting pretty good. Of course, it would have been great to get through without stress.

So what needs to happen for the U.S. to move on to the next round?

Win or draw vs. Germany.

Loss vs. Germany and we need:

Portugal-Ghana draw

Ghana wins by one. We lose by one

Portugal wins by no more than 3 goals more than we lose by

Its complicated if we dont get a point. That f---ing header was huge

By the way...great to see Yedlin get in.

Fabian Johnson has been the US best player

A win or a draw with Germany and the US goes to the knockout round. They can still lose and get in if the US doesn't lose by more than a goal in their match against Germany, and:

- Ghana and Portugal draw
- Ghana wins by no more than 1 goal
- Portugal wins by no more than 3 goals

From wikipedia:

The ranking of teams in each group is based on:
1. Points in all group matches, with three points awarded for a win, one point for a draw and none for a loss.
2. Goal difference in all group matches
3. Goals scored in all group matches
4. Points in matches between tied teams
5. Goal difference in matches between tied teams
6. Goals scored in matches between tied teams
7. Drawing of lots

I disagree about Bradley. I think Bradley played really well and had some amazing plays with Dempsey especially in the first half. Had we capitalized on even just a couple of those we wouldn't of even had a sweat come end of the game.

Bradley played a very good game.. on the fateful turnover I think he's something like 60+ yards from his own goal, facing Howard, with a hot pass at his knees and surrounded by Portuguese. He had run well over 7 miles to that point (more than any player on the field) and there were 8-9 Americans behind him capable of defending.

He couldve done better, yes. But the whole group couldve managed the last 1 minute of that game much better. It wasnt soley Bradley's doing. He was one of our best yesterday (Dempsey, Jones and Johnson the other three)

If its necessary to find blame, look no further than Geoff Cameron.
