It looked like he turned things up a notch for sure. The kid has all the physical tools, he just needs the mental side to bring it all together.

I think him being here and having the success he had under Pete his first year spoiled him a bit. He had a solid year on a bad defense that didn't seem to know how bad it was, and probably got a little full of himself. Lack of accountability and solid coaching for 2 years set him back. Under MM, he can hopefully begin to actually fulfill his potential. He was the whipping boy last year when the cerebral aspects of the game ramped up considerably and he couldn't just rely on his physical gifts. Hopefully what we are seeing now is the game starting to slow down for him in this defense.

I don’t think there’s anyone here among us who doesn’t think the dude has the talent and ability to be a very good CB. He has all the measurables physically. It’s the WANT TO.

He takes games off mentally. But when he chooses to apply himself mentally AND physically he’s a force.

I thought tonight he was applying both which is why he looked pretty good to us.

Like the famous line from Forest Gump:

“Riq is like a box of chocolates. You never know which one yer gonna get.”

Seems like he’s got all this talent but can’t put it all together anymore.

When he does play well it would be nice to see him head to the grind instead of celebrating histrionically after deflecting the shittiest of passes

He didn't play bad at all, but certainly not as good as his cheerleading portrayed. That is definitely starting to bother me. Dude literally celebrates players dropping passes after already burning him , like he was the cause. Almost like if he pumps his chest enough, the coaches won't notice how out of position he was

I'm always fascinated by his lightning quick facial expression changes in an interview. He will flash a smile and within a microsecond shut it down into a frown. He doesn't seem super comfortable in public, perhaps even a savant of sorts. Brilliant defensive mind, locked in, very serious most of the time and I'm thrilled he's our coach.
