Did a draft simulation on PFF. And they had the draft going basically like last year for us, with Mason Graham falling to 18. Don’t see lighting striking two years in a row, but if it does, I’d take him. The DL would be a strength for years.

2nd round- Donavan Jackson OG tOSU
3-Will Howard tOSU
4-Jamon Dumas-Johnson LB Uk
4- Damien Martinez Miami
5- Jordan Burch DE

Schneider knowing his past, will probably have maybe a dozen players (at best) with “his 1st round” grades.

As soon as they are all gone, he will look to trade down.

Bet!

The first set of mock drafts are coming out since the order became set. Here are some of the early projections for that 18th pick:

CBS Sports - Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
USA Today - Josh Conerly Jr., OT, Oregon
New York Times - Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
Walter Football - Nic Scourton, DE, Texas A&M
Bleacher Report - Kelvin Banks, OT/OG, Texas
FOX Sports - Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

I like everyone of those picks except Burden. It's not that I don't like him but we have JSN in that slot role which is where I think Burden would excel. Josh Conerly is definitely not a WR though LOL. All the offensive linemen would be good and Scourton would be a nice luxury to have but he is just that right now, a luxury. I read another one where it had us taking Shemar Stewart which falls in the same category as Scourton, a luxury. BPA however is the way to go and Edge, while we have solid players, is always a need.

Flea Freskrigde. Dee’s 4th cousin weighing in at 145 lbs at 5’9”.

I heard he ran a 4.3 at his alma matter: Southern Western Baptist Welding and Street Art Institute.

Jokes aside…need to see an O-linemen.

I think six drafts ago was the last time we traded our first pick.
During the draft? I think so. But Jamal Adams is waiting by the white courtesy phone.

I know both of our OT's are playing in their contract years and Lucas as long term is up in the air still but I'd hate to use that first pick on strictly an OT. I know some of the guys project to move inside, which is fine but they need a stud guard in the worst way. Whether the first, second or FA, they better be looking at that position hard. I wouldn't mind a DT in the first and OG second if they could still land a good one or make a splash in FA on the position.

You can still land a very good talent at #18th overall pick. What has happened the last two years is that a player have fallen outside of the top ten right into the Seahawks lap. JSN(#20) and Murphy (#16).

This past draft had a run on offense which I think happens again so that will push some nice defensive pieces down. A lot of NFL teams benefited from that with the Seahawks, Rams, Eagles, etc.

Hawks can easily land a boundary CB at #20 for example for Mac's scheme if they want or a top rated guard/center.

I know BPA and all that but I'm going trenches with premium picks all day long if I was them. I think they can achieve that without reaching too far. Too me, everything outside of QB is a luxury until we get tough, physical and good in the trenches or it will be another season of up and down sporadic play.

A lot of Edge, DL, and WRs in the first round. Unless a real blue chipper drops to us, I'd say trade down and get Booker/Jackson in the 25-30 range and pick up a 3rd.

Many fans overestimate how many high draft picks are on the average offensive line. NFL teams do not need a line full of first and second round picks in order to be adequate. It's more important to find the right players and surround them with a good scheme, development and coaching.

Look at the Rams who have a playoff game this weekend.
Starting OL: LT UDFA, LG #36, C #217, RG #135, RT #57

Or how about the Packers.
Starting OL: LT #249, LG #44, C #62, RG #92, RT #140

The highest drafted OL I'm aware of belongs to the Vikings with a first round pick (C), three second round picks (LT RG RT), and a sixth round pick (LG). However, they didn't draft all of those guys themselves, but acquired LT Cam Robinson from Jacksonville and RG Dalton Risner from Denver.

The important thing about our #18 pick is to make sure that we get a really good player first, and if they play a valuable position then that's a bonus.

Kansas City is another good one; no first round picks there either. I don't agree with those who say we neglect the position, it's more just poor execution of a solid strategy.

The only two teams that consistently have put high picks into their OL in recent years are Detroit and Dallas. One is thriving largely because of it, the other struggles in spite of it. Some of that is circumstance though. I'd like to think we wouldn't have passed on Penei Sewell either had we been gifted him at pick #7 that one year. The Lions are always picking before us anyway.

Easy to say if you were hitting on mid to late round picks like the Packers or spending money like the Chiefs. Neither of which JS has done.

Easy to say that when you pick a couple teams that are an exception to the rule. Now do that list for the top 10 offensive lines in the league and include contracts that they've paid out. Left tackle is the only position of our group that JS consistently spends resources on.

If you're not going to spend money on legit players, then I think you have to be a bit more aggressive in the draft. I don't think anyone is talking about any crazy reaches, there should be guys in our range that warrant the pick.

JS should have just let Holmgren make the IL picks first him. We would have a top 10 OL right now, and not be in this mess
