Apparently, Winfield told the Hawks he is going to retire.

Well, this makes it more understandable. If he thinks he doesn't have it anymore, then it must be true. I had high hopes for him. Kind of relieved that no other team will get him to be honest.

Does this mean we get to recoup more of that money from the contract?

Reading a bit, and I don't think it does.

Well if he did thats pretty cool, knowing he didn't have it to get through a season or wasn't quite right so the Seahawks could retain a player thats going to be here for the long haul instead was something you don't see everyday. Thanks Antoine.

Appreciate him coming here, though. I'm sure he had a ton of knowledge to share in the DB room. Our corners will be better for having trained with him.

From what it sounds like. Hawks were cut him. Gave him the heads up. He asked if they could try and trade him to another contending team. Couldnt get in with a good team, so decided to retire instead of get scooped up in the waivers by a crap team (which would have happened).

He's a 15 year pro, he doesn't go to the waiver wire when cut (unless it's after the trading deadline, which obviously it's not).

Basically the FO told him he was getting cut or traded and he said "well there's no point playing for anyone else this year since the Hawks are winning the Superbowl"
