I remember there were some (a minority, for the most part) who thought Russell was being "fake" when he started doing these visits his rookie year. I don't think it was ever fake, or done to get publicity. He still goes, even during the offseason.

It's seem odd to take a good thing and turn it in to "he's fake" etc. That's just almost creepy imo. That human need by SOME to downplay something that is positive. Makes zero sense. He's giving some joy to a bunch of sick kids, that is always a good thing.

Even if he only does it "for his brand"(and I don't believe that), it's still a great cause and he's definitely shown how dedicated he is to it. Anyone who isn't a straight up hater has to give him some serious props for his service to the community no matter what they believe the reasons are behind it

Yes, I doubt any of the "he's just doing it for his image" folks have ever given of themselves in any altruistic way.

While I do like anonymous donors who don't want recognition, I think Wilson posts this stuff as much for the kids to show their friends as he does for any other reason. I mean who wouldn't want to show their buddies a picture of them and Russ.

If it was merely an image thing, Russ would have stopped ages ago. But he still goes on his one off day a week. Since 2012. He may be a corny dude but I think his heart is always in the right place.

Absolutely. They couldn't care less. They get to meet and hang out with the guy. Many of these kids won't even make it, bringing some joy to them is 100 percent positive. And if anyone tries to downplay it, they are pathetic, period.

Motive doesn't matter at all to me.

My nephew was 12 and just about living at Children's at one point in his journey to get a new liver.
I remember taking him baseball cards. He did finally get a liver when he was 13 in 1997.
He became one of the biggest sports fans ever. If he was alive (he later died at 25) to see Russ giving in this way, he'd be so proud of Russ.
I wish there were players of that caliber doing that back then.
He had some cool private moments though with UW and the Cleveland Indians paying for him to come to spring training.

Liberals that complain about money that goes to build sports stadium, obviously never understand the impact the team has on what they give back to the community. I can't imagine growing up in a community that didn't have pro sports.

I've never really been a fan of his "rah rah" stuff and I'm not into the religious stuff either.

But I have never doubted his sincerity regarding his visits to the kids at the hospital. That has always been genuine as far as I could see.

A musician Singer myself, I have to agree 100%.
With all the money & fame he has, he sure as hell doesn't need the glitz, & glamour, he's never let it go to his head, he just knows that he's been blessed...Dang!!!, I sure do love that kid. :irishdrinkers:

I'm a 72 year old "Liberal", that served in the Military, & has NEVER EVER complained about what is good for the less fortunate, I gladly paid my taxes to HELP take care of the folks who can't help themselves...Sometimes being on the Left, is the right thing to do ZTL. :141847_bnono:

Fortunately, he has cut WAY back on the religious stuff. I am glad for that. The Rah Rah stuff, that's all good. A blatant refusal to accept losing or anything other than believing you can win sets the greats apart from the average.
