So we're still looking at 4 players to be cut today for the 75-man limit, correct?

And what's the point in even placing a player on the Preseason PUP if he counts towards the 90, 75, and 53 man limits?

I think that you can't put a guy on regular season PUP unless he was declared on PUP during training camp/preseason. Can someone confirm that?

I just had a discussion with a dude that did quote that rule. The only way you can use regular season PUP is if the player was on preseason PUP all the way through the preseason.

The only other options if the player was activated off the preseason PUP, if I am correct, are the NFI (non-football injury) list and IR.

Any combination of Cut 4 or move 4 to Regular Season PUP.

Regarding the point of the Preseason PUP.
Any player that goes to the regular season PUP must have first been on the preseason PUP. This allows an injured player to return after the six weeks of the regular season. The drawback is that they cant have practiced with the team after start of training camp even once.

I was really hoping we would find a way, SOME way to keep Blackmon. Trade for Maxwell?

Anyways, I believe he will be making a ton of plays for another team this season.

Agreed.

I probably wouldn't want him in place of anyone who will make the roster, but I was irrationally hoping there was some way. I think he's a really good player, and I think he "put out some good tape" or whatever they say. He'll get picked up.

Makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification.

He is a better pass-catcher, definitely. Good route-runner, too. I would definitely prefer him over Helfet or McGrath.
How dare you want him over McGrath. Have you seen that beard? It's amazing.

We're at 75 now:

#Seahawks place WR Percy Harvin, DE Greg Scruggs & CB Tharold Simon on Reserve/PUP list; LB Korey Toomer on Reserve/Non-Football Injury list

So Scruggs, Simon, and Harvin can be brought back?

Yes, after the six weeks of regular season. Toomer is out for the year.

Clem remains on active preseason PUP. Can still be moved to regular season PUP at 53 man cutdown or moved to active roster and held out of practice. Good sign they are waiting.

Wow, I thought Scruggs would be on IR. I guess he is healing quickly. Good news.

Clem is also probably Week One-ready if they didn't put him on PUP, I would guess. Fantastic.

1) Scruggs could still go IR but that would be for season for sure (if they didn't use the one exception on him) so there is not much reason to put him on IR at this time. And the announcment read PUP/Reserve.....

2) If Clem is expected week 3 or 4 etc then they would probably still do this. If he goes PUP he has to sit for the first 6 weeks. So this does NOT mean week one ready. He could be but this does not mean that

Yeah, next cuts will be tough. A lot of our guys will end up making it on other teams, no doubt.
Then we get to listen to a lot of freaking out because the team cut a guy they like etc.

Fair counterpoints, but if Clem is expected Week Four, I would be really surprised if they did not PUP him and give him until Week Six, especially with Irvin coming back Week Five.

We'll see but I really doubt it.

He's done a pretty good job when pushed into CB duty, is our fastest player per Pete (just an example of his athleticism) and is an excellent special teams player.

I think Blackmon is a much better corner than Lane and probably Maxwell, but he looked iffy in special teams whereas Maxwell and especially Lane have been lights out in that regard. Seriously, I think Lane might be our best non-specialist (K/P/LS), non-Harvin special teams player. He's a pretty good KR and IMO our best kick coverage guy.

It wouldn't kill me if they released Lane, who I think is exploitable in coverage, but it would surprise me. Pete values STs a ton, and with Blackmon gone, I just don't see who we'd dump Lane for. I'm sure we'll keep six corners. Five would be pushing it given Thurmond's history and Winfield's age.

I feel a little sorry for Parker and Knox. I think our roster might be the only one in the NFL they can't make. Hopefully they get signed by another team, I'm guessing they will. If not, I hope we can PS Knox, who seems like a guy that could develop into something useful for us.
