I will say, it will be utterly delicious to hear Kevin Calabro calling Sonics games again. He's the maestro.

Didn't know he was the Trailblazer's announcer! He's 69 so hopefully he has some years left, and when the Sonics come back, sorry Trailblazers but he's OURS.

I swear if Caitlin Clark hadn't of showed up, basketball would have already died.
The Payton/Kemp era sure was fleeting.

Do you seriously think Caitlin Clark has had any impact on the NBA? She plays in the WNBA. She for sure has boosted the popularity of the WNBA, but I don’t thinks he’s had much impact on the NBA.

I personally don’t think people in Seattle have much of a grasp on the NBA. No different than up until a couple years ago any kid under the age of 20 had no grasp on baseball because the Mariners were so awful.

Catilin Clark may have had an impact on the NBA in that she could have generated interest in the sport with some women that otherwise might not have been fans. It's a similar effect that Tiger Woods had on golf, that he got more young blacks interested in the sport as they were able to identify with it. But I agree with you in that there's no way the effect was large enough to where it saved the game.

Too bad I dont have any Sonics geat left from the nineties. Bought some similar shirts from simply Seattle though. But originals would be cool when they come back.

Ok friend, if you are basing your opinion on what the NBA looks like today, you really don't have any idea what great basketball looks like.
Lots of old school basketball fans know Caitlin Clark's name, but many of us would struggle to name an NBA player not named Lebron.

Agreed! Those who started watching the NBA recently don't know what a team game looks like. Watch a game from before the 2000s and you'd see what I'm talking about. As great of players Lebron, Kobe, and Durant are, they changed basketball from a team game to an individual one.

You said Caitlin Clark has made the NBA more popular. That isn’t true. Do you really think the NBA got a major uptick because of her? The WNBA got an uptick. NBA and MLB always interchange between the second most popular sport in America. You make it sound like nobody watches it.

I’m not going to debate NBA with someone who doesn’t watch today’s game and can’t name someone other than LeBron. And I’ve been watching NBA for over 30 years.

Like the other poster mentioned, there is little crossover between NBA and WNBA fans. Anyone who has been to a Storm game knows that. And I do go to a handful of Storm games every season.

No doubt. Kevin back with the Sonics and Durant playing his final year in Seattle. Bring it on.

Show me were I said Caitlin Clark made the NBA more popular, I didn't. I said if CC hadn't showed up "basketball" would have already died. For those of us who watched the game in its purest, most elite form, today's NBA is on life support, self imposed hospice really.
Caitlin Clark didn't give the NBA a boost, she shamed them with her play and took the game to another level.
She was a phenomenon not seen since Pete Maravich came into the spotlight in 1967.
Both leagues have adopted that WWE vibe with fantasy leagues & sports betting keeping them afloat.

The Lakers vs Celtics rivalry is long gone along with John Stockton's floor game.
Kids used to listen to Bob Blackburn call the Sonics with their ear glued to the radio.
When the NBA was in its thirty year reign, everyone from gramma's to kids watched. Much like neighborhood pickup baseball games, AAU basketball, summer league, open gym, church league, everything from driveway hoops to HS state tournaments was huge.

I hope the Sonics return and they can build a team worth watching. But mostly I hope the NBA realizes it's the brand of basketball that sells, not the number of points scored.

Well you said if not for Caitlin Clark then basketball would be dead. So you’re implying that if Clark didn’t show up, then the most popular league for basketball would be done. So I’m just inferring from your comment that Clark saved the NBA. She saved the WNBA.

No worries friend, don't listen to me.
I'm just a crazy old man that used to be able to dunk the ball but now probably can't touch the net. It's cool that you like the round ball.
