The only thing that I can see is that the Seahawks are waiting to hire somebody from the Rams or the Bengles as a new DC. Do you have any other expectation of why they are waiting so long to make the hire ?

What wait? There is no published due date.

Many eyes are focused on Vegas.

Pete Carroll is the Seahawk DC. Who will be the person everyone blames when things go wrong and holds the title of DC figuratively, that remains to be seen. They can take all the time they want. Pete runs the defense, period.

I dont think think they're in a rush AND i think their decision might also be one that looks toward the future of the HC position. It would be ideal if the person they brought on could be groomed to be the team's next HC - they'd be on staff for the last years of Pete's tenure, exposed to the culture and everything that makes the team unique. The transfer of power for the Seahawks from Pete to whoever comes next SHOULD maintain the unique culture and philosophy that exists today. For all the misses (every FO and HC has them), the Seahawks represent something special in the context of NFL franchises and sports teams in general. That's not homerism or Pete worship. They should absolutely take their time and get this selection right.

And getting someone young who 'buys in' to the approach AND has a unique vision to take it into the coming years, i'd think, would be a priority. So its likely not as simple as picking from the popular names that have been thrown around in the media.

Not sure whether that thinking extended to the Waldron hire, or if much of his coming on board was an effort to try to give Russ what he was looking for. But it would seem, given Pete's impression of him, he sees Shane as someone who's vision of what winning football looks like is in harmony with how Pete sees it. Best case, we secure options for HC in both our OC and future DC positions.

Do you think that Jody Allen has her hand in on this ? Hire the right DC or the ax will fall type of thing. Giving Pete a chance to save his position as grand poo boah. :stirthepot:

I really don't think the DC job under Carrol is that desirable of a job. That's part of the problem. Most people wanting a coordinator job probably want some degree of autonomy. There's quite a bit of evidence that one doesn't get much of that with Carrol.

If you don't think that's the case, I don't know what to tell you. But you should listen to the KJ Wright interview. Or read about what actually led to Schottenheimer leaving. Or read about Pete not trusting Russ to get players lined up correctly in the event of audibles.

Pete is looking for another understudy. Jody just wants to rebuild a winner and if that includes trading Wilson then so be it. I want him to stay but only if he wants to be here. What we've read and seen thus far in reports is that he wants to test the waters. First things first Russ needs to read the field better and do better period. He stank ass for a majority of the past couple of years folks..

I don't think Jody has nearly the negative opinion of Pete that some in the fan base do.

If anything, I think maybe she's reinforced the need to set aside personal relationships and focus on getting people in that are best suited for the program moving forward ( bye KN) and players who want to be here and embrace the philosophy ( let Wilson go if he wants to go).

Even Richard Sherman in his latest critique of theteam and its fans underscored how good a coach Pete is when he said that for all the fans wanting him gone, that if he leaves, to be prepared to get comfortable with losing. And Richard has a healthy dose of resentment toward Pete for being cut when he was... so little reason to heap praise.

I really want a veteran DC who has previous experience as a DC. I don't want to go through the same growing pains we did this year with Waldron on the other side. Give me a Gus Bradley or Wink Martindale any day over some young guy getting his first crack at this.

I think Jody may like Pete on a personal level, but she might have put Pete on probation, go deep in playoff this year or out. Hard to know for sure, but John63 has access to conversation from inner circle including Pete, not sure if John is willing to share.

Not really; except for J63 we’re all just fans with no direct connection to the team. Seems unlikely any of us would have legit insight into the process of hiring a defensive coordinator.

They went with Hurtt for DC. Shoot, I'm sure people will freak out and act like the sky has fallen. But, give the guy a chance. Can't be any worse than KNJ.
