What a fun thread! Love seeing how many folks have been fans since the Hawks’ inaugural season.

Like Aircrew, my fandom dates to 1986 when my family moved to Washington. The place we came from was not near any NFL cities, and my parents are not sports fans, so I had next to no knowledge of the game. I had watched the Bears/Pats Super Bowl, but that was pretty much the extent of my football experience.

When the ‘86-‘87 school year began, my classmates would play football at recess, and I discovered I enjoyed the game a lot and was pretty good at it. They were all fans of this pro team called the Seahawks, and so I asked my parents if I could watch the games on TV. Once I started doing that I was hooked, and have been a fan ever since.

Incidentally, my avatar is a photo of an art project I created during the next school year. The front opens like two doors, and inside is a Seahawks-themed poem.
Largent looks like an O-lineman.

Only 10 teams used to make the playoffs in those days, otherwise that '86 team could have definitely won the SB.

I started watching Seahawks games after we moved to Oregon in 1981. I was at first just a Steve Largent fan, and gradually became more and more a Seahawks fan.

I grew up in Illinois, and have been a Bears fan since 1963.

Hawks had some good players when we started, Largent emerged as our true 1st superstar and he was soooo easy to root for. Small, slow white guy ballin at the top level of his profession because he was the smartest guy on the field and had the athleticism to take advantage of the way he played. SL/Zorn, SL/Kreig, The O with SL, Warren, JL & that cast still makes me giddy.

You nailed it on Largent!

Even today, he is still my all-time favorite Seahawk.

What makes this thread great through the years is that we fans can and do argue over the silliest minutiae of our team but nobody can argue over how you became a fan. It’s one of those connections and bonds we all share that is immune to argument.

I was 11 and small for my age; every professional football player probably looked that way to me then. (But I can't disagree. ;))

Around that time, our small-town (Southeast Washington) police department was distributing off-brand, slightly oversized football cards featuring Seahawks players. Thinking back, this was probably one of the main lures that irreversibly hooked me into the 'Hawks tribe. Does anyone recall these cards and their context?

I played football in grade school and was a big fan of joe montana , not the niners , just really liked joe
I was 10 in 76 when i heard the news and have bled green and blue ever since
One of my friends called em the thunderchickens , not a football fan just giving me a hard time cuz i was a fan of at the time a terrible team but i never waivered
All those years I wor seahawks gear every single day , hats , shirts , jerseys , socks , sweats and pajamas , flip flops , you name it I had it
Went to grant winstroms 1st seahawks halloween party and i put together 3 seahags messed up cheerleaders outfits and when the real seagals came in they laughed , bought us drinks and took about a zillion risque photos my wife even laughed at
We would've won the costume contest by a large margin but when my buddy lifted my other buddy's top and started fake tongue likin his plastic boobs mike silvi knew we sure as hell gettin on serahawks saturday night
It was at the premier club and , well
Had to get a cab home and come back the next day for my van
Had club seats for 5 years from 2001 till 2007 and the recession in 08 killed that but I have thousands of memories and events we went to , met all kinds of players and have about 50 autographs
Finally it was the IN thing to be a hawks fan so i had my 3 club seats which I let my uncles sit in and got 5 other tix for my cousins and me
Made everyone come early to get sigs , my nephew got PA's autograph an 4 or 5 of us got a few
I introduced the seahawks to my family and built a 110 inch projector just for away games back when tube tv's were still around
Now my uncle has seizures and for the last 3 years he decided before he passes away he wants to see some games and of course asked me to go to 2 games a year and just pay for parking and drive
They'll always be my team and I like meeting other teams fans and shootin the scmidt
Football brings people together , the ups , the downs , I have seen it all but from 83 to 85 I was in arizona going to trade school and missed that whole experience
I didn't have a 10ft. satellite dish so yeah , it sucked to hear about when i came back to Washington
I always tell folks when the hawks used to have losing seasons , if my kid was on a crappy t-ball team would I stop rooting for him, NO and that analogy has worked well
I can't fricken wait to see this season
Going to Rams and the cards game this year
Would've been green bay but the prices for really decent 2nd level seats are through the roof so we made a choice
Go Hawks

I've got the common boring story: born in the Seattle area in 1980 to a family of Hawks fans. It was just part of the air I breathed.

Interestingly, like AROS, I was also influenced by cool uniforms and that's why the Vikings were always my second-favorite team. It was easier back then before the Hawks switched conferences and before the poison pill. But they've remained the only other team I cheer for because I lived in the upper midwest for 9 years in high school and college and my wife's entire side of the family are Vikes fans.

Short version.

Moved to Washington around 75 or 76. Just in time for Seattle to be given an NFL franchise . We had moved all over the country up to this point because of my Dad's work so I picked a team based on their helmets (of course) .

The Minnesota Vikings.

Once I saw that silver, blue and green with the Native American art on the helmet , I was done. I am native myself and promptly disposed of anything purple and have been a 12 ever since .

My Dad was able to get season tickets to watch Seahawks at Kingdome back in 1976. So grew up going to every home came with Dad from age 6 thru 18 when moved away from home after H.S. graduation. So many great memories watching Zorn, Largent, Jacob Green, and Curt Warner.

Really, now 54 yrs, my loyalty and attachment to Seahawks is strong. I believe my love for Hawks is connected to time with and relationship with Dad, something we did together and talked about.

Growing up, my second favorite NFL team was the Dallas Cowboys with Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett and company. I was always disappointed when Bradshaw and the Steelers would beat them. I think my Dad liked Landry and the cowboys.

This is my son's story. I never forced it on him, more like osmosis.

I can vaguely remember my first football game in the Kingdome in 76. at the age of 4, I thought the overhead black & white monitors were pretty cool. I was also struck by how vivid the field looked under the lights.

Were they the cards they used to put in loafs of Snyder's bread?
I talked my Mom into taking me to a local car dealership to get Jim Zorn's autograph . I remember it like it was last week.

Damn I love the Seattle Seahawks

That was a great post.

I personally would recommend letting your daughter change teams just one more time 😆

There's a photo buried somewhere deep within some storage box that shows me around 6 or 7 wearing a Raiders t-shirt.

Forgive me father for I have sinned.

That's funny. I had an Earl Campbell cotton jersey I wore to dust. Fortunately, the Oilers were never rivals I had to despise like the AFC west teams. The 80's playoff loss in OT hurt quite a bit though.
