Why is is so difficult to add my avatar

trying to upload from photobucket, but all I get is "invalid URL" or some bs about an "attack vector" WTF?

Post the entire link inside of <code></code> tags (use the [] keys instead of the <> keys when posting).

I would imagine your link from photobucket has invalid text in it that is hiting mime trigger security.

Two things;

1) that picture is too large to use as an avatar. It must be a maximum of 150x150, yours is 160x122
2) in the 'upload from url' box all you need to put in there is the image link which is
